Title: Operation Northern Light 2016 Trenton Planning & Discussion
Post by: M.S.-ARC on January 08, 2016, 12:32:46 PM
Does anyone know if the lion claws event in June in Trenton is confirmed?

It has been confirmed that Operation Northern Light will happen once again in Trenton Michigan on June 24 to June 26.

This is the discussion thread for it.

Is it at the old steel mill?

Might as well edit this to be the planning thread.

I'll be there.

I had made the comment I wanted to make it to a Lion Claws event this year, so I might be going. We'll see as it gets closer. Since I've never been to one of their events(actually haven't been to a larger even in nearly 10 years), I'm going to have to do my reading and figure out all their rules and regs.

Is it just me or is their site difficult to navigate? Maybe I'm just having a hard time absorbing information;) This isn't the first time I've been there reading but man I just can't seem to find the common stuff like event rules I'd expect to find.

I agree Luke I struggle to navigate it too. I'm going to need a simplified version or at least a link to what I need

It's not just you. They're redoing the site, so a lot of information isn't there right now.

Once we get closer I might post up a thread covering the details from other guys who've gone before. Since it will be a fairly long trip for me I'd like to make certain I've got all my ducks in a row before hand so that I don't have any problems.

As well depending on teams etc, I don't anticipate I'll be attending with anyone from up here, might be but I won't likely be. So I may want to run with some of you guys if you'll have an old man among ya;)

There will be multiple MiA groups organized. I have no doubt you will have somewhere to fit in with friendly people.

Question for guys who've done this before, how soon does the registration typically open and how quickly does it fill up. IE how soon will I have to know 100% whether I'll be able to make it? I know this will vary some but based on past events I'm just curious.

I was actually looking at the calendar and the date conflicts with my normal summer trip to the St. Ignace car show with my whole family. So I am considering going to the show, seeing family for the week or so before then heading down to the game, coming back afterwards and bringing the wife and kids back home. Would be a hectic way to make the dates work for me, but depending on how things go it might be my only way to make it. So it's going to require a fair amount of extra planning to pull everything off;)

Also does anyone have any guess as to how much registration would be? If not it's not a big deal

Registration doesn't seem to fill up very quickly. I'm not sure how many total player slots are available, but there doesn't seem to be a major reason to rush to sign up. I remember that years ago IRENE would fill up in a few hours and people were registering the minute the event registration opened. I don't think that registration is particularly competitive anymore and it really doesn't make sense for the event host to set a hard cap on participants.

The cost, if I'm remembering correctly, is somewhere in the range of $160-$180 for first-timers and $140-$160 for alumni. In any case, newcomers pay more than returnees.

Count me in as a +1 for Green side.  I've heard countless stories about the Steel Mill, but I've never had the chance to actually go.  AO looks huge, so I'm a little worried about how well engagements are gonna go, but I'm still pumped.

You have no reason to worry about engagements at this AO.

You will get long distance, cqb, force vs technicals all within about 300 ft of each other.

Thats good, I was a little concerned about movement being a little to easy.  The AO seems to have a ton of open spaces, which would make securing an area difficult.  MUTC managed to avoid that problem due to its smaller size, and TOP didn't even try, since it was a complete clusterfuck.  An absolute blast of a clusterfuck, though.

I also was not able to find this on the LC site. Where has it been announced? When is the event scheduled for?

I've reached out to a few of the Nighthawk guys and even a few old RAGE guys. I know we will be fielding a squad for this.

I'm assuming green top and M81 bottoms again for the MIA crew. At least we should...

I'm very interested, and it would be my first LC event, but I'll have to see if it works out financially. I'd love to roll with some MiA people.

I'm so in. I can go tan or green. Went to MUTC last year, had lots of fun and I can't wait for this. Guessing MIA will be green.

Does anyone have any official plans for uniform color for MIA guys? I know we can roll individually if we like but for everyone that wants to stick together do we have any kind of plans?

Looks like I will be going along with a buddy. I figure this game is good enough to come out of retirement for ;)

I'm looking to fill a support role and so is my buddy for a squad.

I'm hoping MIA will go green tops and M81 bottoms.

I may go as well.  Tan side for me.  Playing the same role I have always did before.

If you don't know who I am or haven't met me on the battlefield, then your too damn inexperienced to role with me. ;)  And you best able to run 2 miles in under 12 minutes. :)

I'm planning on going, we'll see closer to the date.

Also, fun fact. My hospital is right down the street from the Mill, so if any of you get hurt or die you'll get to visit me at work!  :D

Signing up on my own for this but would love to form a more cohesive team/units so we know what roles to expect for everyone and can plan ahead.

Can't that discussion be done here?  Setup a password protected thread like in years past?  Facebook seems to be the slow death of this site.

For those not on Facebook, please post any important info here if possible.

Absolutely it can be done here. I set up the Facebook group for people who aren't on the forum.

It's not mandatory,  just an additional resource.

Just want to confirm that the green side is where most of the MI players will be before I register?  It does not look like the Hellfish will be fielding a squad for this.  I hope to have a couple of people tagging along with me.  So if there is a squad out there that wants us, let me know.

There is no green side this year.
It's muticam vs black ( you're supposed to have at least a black or bottom and non military camo/solid color)
