Storyline:

The ‘War on Drugs’ is a loosely used and general term for a set of international legislation, prohibition, financial assistance, military aid, and conflicts both regional and internal with the stated goals of reducing the global illegal drug trade (narcotic and/or controlled substance black market), reduction of drug related crime and violence, and reducing the consumption of illegal controlled substances. According to a 2003 United Nations report, the worldwide drug trade generated an estimated $321.6 billion (USD); an estimated 1% of all global trade.

In the United States, President Richard Nixon officially launched the ‘War on Drugs’ in 1971 declaring that drug abuse was “public enemy number one.” Often since their formation nation states around the world have passed laws and regulations attempting to control the sale, use, and distribution of controlled substances. Official attempts to regulate or prohibit psychoactive substances came as early as 1729 with Chinese laws prohibiting the smoking of opium. Prohibition laws are considered by law enforcement and governments to be some of the more difficult regulations to enforce; simply speaking citizens often times choose not to obey.

On June 2nd, 2011, the Global Commission on Drug Policy including former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and the former presidents of Mexico, Brazil, and Columbia officially declared that the “War on Drugs has failed.” Governments around the world are engaged in a myriad of legal and actual battles both for and against the prohibition of drugs. Even after the ink of the legislative pen has dried and the muzzle of the rifle falls silent, a number of serious questions will remain... Has the War on Drugs reduced the demand? Has the supply of drugs been reduced or eliminated? Can morality be legislated for the benefit of public good? Should public health be treated as a legal issue?

Tajik Border Guards Skirmish With Pakistani Smugglers

Twenty-five soldiers monitoring a rural post near the Tajikistan-Pakistan border have been wounded, and ten are dead after a day long skirmish with Pakistani smugglers. In what local officials are calling a “major smuggling operation” in the Wakhan Corridor region of Tajikistan. Bordered by Pakistan in the North, Afghanistan in the Northwest, and China to the East, the narrow strip of mountainous land serves as an important crossing point for international trade commerce.

In an official statement released by Dushanbe and the Minister of Interior, Pakistani smugglers were intercepted approximately 10 kilometers inside Tajikistan beyond border checkpoints. Two tonnes of Heroin, 500 pounds of Methamphetamine, and $200,000 in Russian Roubles were abandoned during a sustained firefight. Four smugglers were killed during the clash, their names have not been released by the Tajik government.

Regional instabilities have added to the growth of the international drug trade through Tajikistan in recent years. Taking advantage of disruptions caused by the Arab Spring movement, corrupt government officials, and poor economic conditions, smugglers have been transporting increasing amounts of narcotics through the region. Often sourced and grown in countries such as Afghanistan and others in the “Golden Triangle”, the destinations are often places such as China, Eastern Europe, or Africa.

Thanks to everyone that came out over the weekend for a day of great spring airsoft! Considering it's April and Michigan, we couldn't have asked for better weather.

Throughout the day, I only heard a few incidents of players not calling hits and a few people wandered a little outside of the field borders. Of which, happen all the time and isn't a huge deal.

To all of our returning participants; it's always good to see you all and I'm glad you came out for a great day of airsoft.

To all of our newcomers; thank you for taking time from your day and joining us for a great day of Michigan Airsoft. We hope to see you all again soon!

After Action Reports / AAR: Operation: Barbarossa (03/11/2017) @ HITW
« on: March 12, 2017, 11:23:12 AM »
A special thanks goes out to all the airsofters that braved the extremely cold temperatures and fought hard all day long. The high for yesterday was 24-26 with the wind-chill making it feel around 16 degrees. Hats off to everyone!

By the end of the day, the Tan Team (Germans) had won the event. The Russian faction (Green Team) fought ferociously throughout the entire day.

As with all winter games especially in our state of Michigan, participants experienced battery issues, shrinking hop-up's, and the distinct lack of cover compared to our summer season.

Thank you from all of us at Hole in the Wall Paintball for your continued dedication to our events and the amazing community we're all a part of.
