Storyline:

“We are witnessing most profound social change. Whether in the East or the South, the West or the North, hundreds of millions of people, new nations and states, new public movements and ideologies have moved to the forefront of history. Broad-based and frequently turbulent popular movements have given expression, in a multidimensional and contradictory way, to a longing for independence, democracy and social justice.”

Mikhail Gorbachev – Speech to the UN General Assembly (December 7, 1988)

On December 26th, 1991, the eighth leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev declared his office extinct and handed over all powers; economic, political, and military to Russian president Boris Yeltsin. Later that evening at 07:32 PM local time, the flag of the Soviet Union was lowered for the last time and replaced with a temporary Russian flag.

The breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991 signaled the formal end of the ‘Cold War’ and decades of hostility and suspicion between the North-Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the Warsaw Pact. Eventually, former Soviet Republics and Eastern Bloc nations gained political and economic independence, many becoming completely self-sufficient and contributing members of the global community.

However, dissolution of the Soviet Union and collapse of the Eastern Bloc was further marked by large levels of political and social upheavals, violent protests and riots, military coups, economic instability, genocide, crimes against humanity, and military campaigns vying for control of former nation states.

After Action Reports / Firestorm V After Action Report
« on: October 17, 2015, 09:22:21 PM »
Thanks to everyone that came out this Saturday for Operation: Firestorm V! I saw a lot of new faces out there and a lot of old time players as well. We hope that both factions had an awesome time!

A special thanks goes out to our Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana players! I hope today was worth the drive and we hope you enjoyed playing with our statewide community!

I will say, sportsmanship was great today. I heard of no major complaints of either team today, way to go guys! There will always be issues with players calling or not calling hits, that's airsoft though. Even then, other than some players moving out of bounds (happens every outdoor event), nothing bad.

Coalition Forces (Tan Team) won the event by one objective point, with Socialist Forces (Green Team) coming in a close second.

Firefights were spread-out, sporadic, but very intense while they lasted. Players on both sides were very aggressive.

After Action Reports / AAR: Operation: Corrupt Intent ~ 08/22/15
« on: August 23, 2015, 12:21:25 PM »
A special thanks to everyone that came out this Saturday! I saw tons of smiles and a lot of people talking about having a great time.

Outside of some technical issues and minor gameplay incidents, the event went very well. There were several very intense firefights along with multiple groups pinning each other down and attempting to flank all day long.

For the event outcome, Tan Team accomplished a few objectives as did Green Team. The intense and sometimes drawn out duration of combat along with the evident player experience level allowed both factions to control (assault/capture or repel) each other constantly. Casualty levels were also extremely high for both tan team and green. I saw a constant stream of players back and forth from both spawn points all day long.

Event Outcome: Battlefield Stalemate.

Thanks again to everyone that came out on Saturday! Join us on October 17th for Operation: Firestorm V! http://www.miairsoft.org/index.php?topic=230.0

Event Planning / War on Drugs Event Series (2014 to Present)
« on: August 04, 2015, 07:51:03 AM »
The War on Drugs, Public Enemy Number One
Hole in the Wall Paintball Scenario Series (2014-Present)

The ‘War on Drugs’ is a loosely used and general term for a set of international legislation, prohibition, financial assistance, military aid, and conflicts both regional and internal with the stated goals of reducing the global illegal drug trade (narcotic and/or controlled substance black market), reduction of drug related crime and violence, and reducing the consumption of illegal controlled substances. According to a 2003 United Nations report, the worldwide drug trade generated an estimated $321.6 billion (USD); an estimated 1% of all global trade.

In the United States, President Richard Nixon officially launched the ‘War on Drugs’ in 1971 declaring that drug abuse was “public enemy number one.” Often since their formation nation states around the world have passed laws and regulations attempting to control the sale, use, and distribution of controlled substances. Official attempts to regulate or prohibit psychoactive substances came as early as 1729 with Chinese laws prohibiting the smoking of opium. Prohibition laws are considered by law enforcement and governments to be some of the more difficult regulations to enforce; simply speaking citizens often times choose not to obey.

On June 2nd, 2011, the Global Commission on Drug Policy including former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and the former presidents of Mexico, Brazil, and Columbia officially declared that the “War on Drugs has failed.” Governments around the world are engaged in a myriad of legal and actual battles both for and against the prohibition of drugs. Even after the ink of the legislative pen has dried and the muzzle of the rifle falls silent, a number of serious questions will remain... Has the War on Drugs reduced the demand? Has the supply of drugs been reduced or eliminated? Can morality be legislated for the benefit of public good? Should public health be treated as a legal issue?

2015 Storyline:

U.S. Suffers Massive Cyber Security Breach

“The United States government has announced it has suffered what has been described as one of the worst cyber security breaches in U.S. history and officials think the Chinese hackers are responsible.”

“The personal information of up to twenty-five million past and present government employees may have been compromised in what officials are calling a massive cyber security breach. Based on the internet tactics, style of the attack used, and possible source; NSA Cyber Security analysts think Chinese hackers are responsible. At this time it is not known whether the hackers were part of the Chinese government, or were independent and merely working for the government.

Data compromised includes; payroll records, addresses and personal contact information, and past and present work assignments, the information itself going from present back to 1985. The NSA and U.S. government have been urging all government employees affected to ‘promptly change all passwords and contact information.’ Chinese ambassador to the United States Cui Tiankai calls the statement ‘Irresponsible and extremely damaging to already tense war-time relations.’”
- Noah Hughes - BBC News, Washington D.C.

International Aid Workers Assist In Nepal

“The Indian recall of nearly half a million potentially contaminated rations en route to earthquake survivors in Nepal appears to be effective. But now the question of how to help the already suffering people of Nepal is once again up for debate…”

“Dark, acrid, and suffocating smoke hangs in the air on the Indian side of the Nepalese-Indian border; where almost 500,000 food rations destined for earthquake survivors burn in ditches along the road. The food supplies were recalled over government fears of potential Botulism contamination, caused by ill-maintained manufacturing equipment. The Indian supply company responsible for the possible contamination declined to comment. The Indian military along with the Chinese humanitarian agency People’s Reprieve have been working closely to monitor food ration distribution and ill displaced that arrive at camps for the displaced and affected.

The non-profit organizations Doctor’s Without Borders and the Red Cross are also making strides in Nepal. Nearly thirty-seven mobile camps and medical facilities have been quickly constructed in an attempt to help earthquake survivors. British, American, and French volunteer medical personnel have been working tirelessly to house and feed those who arrive. A British physician working with Doctor’s Without Borders called the situation ‘Heartbreaking.’”

North Korean and Chinese Troops Assault DMZ Base

“An extremely well coordinated assault by North Korean and Chinese forces including suicide bombers on a South Korean-U.S. army base along western coast of the Korean Demilitarized Zone has renewed fears that the conflict on the Korean Peninsula may be expanding into a regional-wide war”

“Walls riddled with bullet holes, destroyed vehicles, and smoldering buildings are the result of the latest Chinese-North Korean assault on a military base along the Pacific coast near the Korean DMZ. ‘I’ve never seen anything like it before. Gunfire, huge explosions, and the fact it happened so quickly, really scared us. The two others with me that night were killed.’ A 27 year old army Sergeant told a reporter.

The attack last night has renewed nears that North Korea and China may attempt pushes to take portions of the Demilitarized Zone piece by piece, no matter what the cost. The joint Chinese-Korean coalition have already gained control of several large portions of the DMZ stretching all the way to the Pacific Ocean. The assault has also renewed fears from the Japanese that the long-running regional conflict may expand to their coastline. The presence of United States military bases and storage facilities on the archipelago has only increased fears and probability of a possible future attack.”
- Kelly Jones - Detroit Free Press.

Supplies For 5,000 Arrive in Eastern Europe

"Supplies to equip and mobilize 5,000 troops including tanks, fighting vehicles, and ammunition have arrived in unspecified areas of Eastern Europe as part of a plan to deter possible Russian aggression towards countries in Eastern Europe. The bill which was just recently on the desk of the Secretary of War is already being implemented as a strategy to discourage Vladimir Putin from any possible moves.

In recent years Vladimir Putin has made increasingly aggressive political and military moves towards countries in Southern Europe, including the deployment of Russian military troops and aircraft near the borders of these nations. Along with several trade agreements and military protection pacts with authorities in Beijing, many countries in the region are becoming increasingly fearful of potential Russian occupation."
- Brandon Nieman – Reuters.

South Korean Forces Routed In Miscalculated Assault

"South Korean infantry conducting an assault on North Korean positions north of Gyeonggi-Do have suffered unacceptable levels of causalities and had to retreat before further losses were taken. The offensive which initially went according to plan with infantry recapturing several key positions north of the historic city of Incheon including previously lost radar stations and ammunition depots.

However, immense levels of North Korean artillery as well as support from previously unexpected light aircraft forced South Korean forces to pull back from positions just captured or risk further dead and wounded. The South Korean government called the failed attack 'tragic for the people of this country.'

The failed in Gyeonggi-Do province highlights the growing problem of continuing North Korean and Chinese assaults on checkpoints along the demilitarized zone and the growing concern of Seoul and Washington that China and North Korea may make a future push towards Incheon."
- Rebecca Rewley – USA Today.

Chinese Relief Supplies Arrive In Nepal

“At the request of the Nepalese government, relief personnel and supplies from the Chinese humanitarian agency People’s Reprieve have begun arriving in the capital city Kathmandu. A magnitude 7.9 earthquake occurred on April 25th, 2015 with an epicenter 80 kilometers northwest of the capital.

Fourteen days earlier on May 1st, personnel from Doctor’s without Borders and the Red Cross began evacuating critically injured and distributing relief supplies as well as constructing makeshift facilities and mobile clinics.

Nepal’s closest neighbor was also quick to respond; almost immediately India began Operation: Maitri providing rescue operations and disaster relief supplies with its own armed forces.

On April 29th, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott issued a statement; pleading for the People’s Republic of China and the United States to put aside their differences for the benefit and aid of the citizens of Nepal.

The United States and China have been engaged in a multi-year conflict on the Korean peninsula. The conflict which initially began in 2006 between South Korea, its military allies the United States and North Korea quickly escalated to a regional war when China intervened militarily on behalf of North Korea.”

- Ryan Fernandez, BBC News. Wellington, New Zealand.

India Joins Ban on US Poultry

“India has officially joined the growing worldwide ban on United States poultry and egg imports. Thirteen confirmed cases have been reported across India, including two at poultry factories outside Delhi and five in Northern areas of the country. In total between all factories over one million Chickens were destroyed.

The highly contagious and potentially lethal variant of Avian Influenza also known as (H5N2) has caused mass fear of a global Avian Epidemic. Import bans include: China, Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong, Angola, Russia, Cuba, Taiwan, South Korea and Guatemala.

As if to complicate matters worse, India has officially recalled over nearly half a million civilian and military rations en route to earthquake survivors in neighboring Nepal over fear of a potential Botulism contamination. Disease control agents from the Chinese military have been working closely with Nepalese officials to test Nepalese poultry for fear the disease may spread.”

- George Yarrington - Reuters.

Chinese Military Expands Air Identification Zone

“The Chinese military has announced it is expanding it's Air Identification Zone to include disputed areas of the East China Sea and areas extremely close to the borders of Bangladesh and Burma in south east Asia. The Identification Zone reportedly crosses the already established borders of Nepal, however that has yet to be confirmed.

Part of the areas in question covered by the expansion include extremely disputed islands in the East China Sea. The Chinese government is engaging in a type of artificial island program on these islands, why has yet to be explained. Geologists and oceanographers are concerned about possible risks to the ecosystem and environment.

If the Chinese military do expand air defense zones to include the areas in question, all aircraft entering or exiting the areas are required follow all instructions ordered by the Chinese Air Force or risk being forced to land. The Indian and Burmese government have denounced the expansion by China calling it a 'Risk to our national security and a blow to global sovereignty.'"

- Allicia Jones - Detroit Free Press.

Foreign Aid Workers Found Dead

"Fifteen foreign aid workers have been found dead in Nepal while attempting to deliver food and basic supplies to people displaced by the 2015 earthquake that struck Nepal earlier this year. The Indian and Chinese governments were quick to respond to crisis along with other nations and countless NGO's.

Five Canadians, eight British, and two French aid workers are dead as the result of a night-time attack on a aid convoy in rural Nepal. The vehicles were found by the Indian military while during a predawn search for displaced civilians, their vehicles riddled with bullet holes and smoldering on the edge of the road. At this time it is not known who the attackers were or the aid workers were targeted, however desperate, suffering people and unidentified guerrilla groups are suspected."

- Chelsea Rasmussen - Chicago Tribune.
