AEG / Re: PCCs

So this rough one is a slightly old revision I'm honestly not sure where the later one is at the moment;) I made like 5-6 variations and then picked the one I liked best out of the concepts but some got further than others. The later version of this has a piece that fits in flush to the rear of the receiver to fill the charging handle spot. I've got a bit of a thing where I generally try and make airsoft guns that *could* work in real life within reason(not that the original picture is a good example of that;) But since the real Olympic arms style guns put the spring system where we are putting the battery up top, the charging handle should go up in that area. And I might even put one in for aesthetic purposes in a later version.

But yeah I didn't really like the front wiring, honestly I hate front wired guns in general. But I wanted super duper short and that was a way to get there. Either way I'll keep working on some of these other versions since most are nearly complete anyhow;)

On sights I forgot, I was looking at doing pistol sights I didn't like how they worked, so I ordered some flip ups to try since I don't like the ones I have on hand. I think a micro red dot or something like that would be pretty good on this setup, but I might just make dovetails also so you could install some regular spec pistol sights. Who knows still thinking on that, right now my setup is point and spray which works fairly well actually;)

Well I might have designed several versions of this;) I actually did do a rear version originally, and a stock and a front end under barrel version;)

But this is the rough cut so to speak of the rear cap/rail all one piece version.

Really the 3d printing isn't the hard part so to speak, the harder part is learning cad and doing the design side of things;) But it sure is allot of fun;)

I've also got some other interesting projects brewing that are actually pretty much done just need to release them, one next weekend and then another one I've got to build. Some of the stuff I'm going to be making will be kits like this pistol, but some will be finished products ready to go. Mostly stuff I've always wanted or felt like no one did it the way I wanted it done etc. So expect some stuff for sale before too long;)

So the m4 body is honestly one I had laying around, same with gearbox and internals, wiring is a bit weird since it goes up front the front into the upper section where the battery is housed.

As far as the rest of the parts, the rear cap, top compartment, and front grip it's all parts that I actually designed in cad and built out;) I'm thinking about offering a kit for sale but I'm going to do some slight revisions to make it a bit easier to handle an 11.1v and a little more room for the front wiring. But pretty minor revisions.

Design wise I like the Ares style and I grabbed some ideas off of their stuff, but I didn't dig their weird receiver so I wanted a standard one. And it was a bit longer than this build from memory, since I was shooting for as short as possible. Really I always wanted a full size AEG backup for running in winter with my sniper rifles so this was an attempt at that. Whether or not it will work in that role I don't know yet;) But it was fun to design and build either way;) And I do believe it would be a very handy in vehicle gun which I drive when I host out here, so it's surely going to see some use in that role. Though I've gotta design a kydex holster for it, right now it's setup for a sling but that's not really necessary a holster will do fine I think for this size of gun.

Luke

EDIT I attached a cross section analysis view from Fusion to show the internal setup of the end. Also the end cap is threaded, so it could be replaced with a suppressor. But since short was the plan I haven't built out that yet. Though I'll be getting on that eventually.

I actually did something like this the other day, though it's currently running a full size m4 mag I haven't tossed an adapter in there but thinking about doing it to run MP5 mags. But we'll see it's gonna be a wait and see project, originally was just designing and building a super small m4 platform.

Agreed;) I actually got this one in trade don't remember what for now but didn't have a whole lot in it. Originally I had actually planned to make it look fine externally and use it on the gunshow table as a sort of table draw;) And just to hang up in the shop as a conversation type of piece. Then I decided to make it shoot and it went downhill from there.

It's not really at all practical size wise it's around 5ft 6in long and heavy though not as much as I thought right around 18lbs according to my postal scale. But still that big and long is crazy compared to say my VSR10 which is around 6lbs;)

But it's still a cool piece even if it's not practical, and I figured there might be a scenario someday requiring a 50 and now I've got one to write into the game;)

Accessories & Ammo / Barrett M82A1 mods

So I've got a Barrett it's a Snow Wolf AEG I picked up as a shell and rebuilt the internals. Basically it was empty of all mechanical parts and slightly cut down outer barrel etc. But I built a gearbox, installed everything and got it shooting right in the 540fps range with a .2g. Fairly long barrel so it doesn't Joule creep even with heavier ammo. I never have had time to really tune it like my other long range guns since I built it around two years ago which happens to be the last time I've really had much time for airsoft with family and business getting in the way(along with health, had a bad bout of pneumonia last year).

Either way I've been 3d modeling this last year, and 3d printing so naturally I've been thinking about airsoft related projects. I've done some that aren't ready to be shown, and I do intend to likely sell some parts eventually. But until then I've got some pictures of some cool bits I've been making for my Barrett. I never liked the fact the Snow Wolf wasn't super accurate to the real deal so some is to improve that. The other is the M107 QDL Suppressor and muzzle break. Which no one builds an airsoft version of, so I figured that would be a fun project to do. I previously had a hand built version but it was further from realistic spec etc. This isn't perfect to spec but it's very close, based on the specs that I could get and scaling within CAD.

Either way fun project and as time permits and the weather gets better I'll take some more pictures of the fully finished gun.

Take care!

Luke

EDIT: Also should mention I'm planning to add the allen head machine screws to the muzzle break section of the suppressor. I had printed them but it wasn't the look I wanted. So I'll just drill and screw some in next time I get to town and can grab some to spec where I need. There are also a few other minor imperfections across the board, those will be cleaned up in time. I actually built this over the last 3 days, so it's barely finished. And the stock clamshell piece I just finished today and installed. And I ran out of paint;)

So there will be several things "fixed" before it's actually done. And I plan to go through and change out the gearbox with a QD box and finish the actual tuning before it hits the field. So it's somewhat of a work in progress like allot of stuff but I still think despite it's complete lack of practicality it's awful cool;) I doubt it'll see much use at all, generally I'll grab my TM VSR10 or my CA M16A2 but maybe once in a while I'll bring out the M82A1;)

Airsoft Discussion / Re: Western Themed Airsoft, RDR

I think the biggest problem is the guns, there is so much focus on modern firearms replicas that most of the period correct guns aren't really nearly as functional. No reason they couldn't be but they never get the development or evolutions of design to make a better gun from them.

Not to be a downer, but I think that's the problem with it. I dig the idea, I'd do it if I had the guns in that niche but I don't, and I wouldn't gear up just for that scenario either.

Now that said if you're looking for a fun time that doesn't seem to have an issue collecting people maybe try cowboy action shooting. Since there are clubs doing that around most areas, it's not airsoft but it is in that same vein of concept in gun games that involve the timeframe with some LARPing built in.

Take care!

Forum News / MIA Facebook group
« on: February 02, 2019, 07:41:47 PM »
Currently Facebook has decided to block or ban the MIA facebook group, we're trying to appeal and get it sorted out, but at least at this time we've got zero info on what's going to happen.

So just a heads up, nothing has changed with MIA as a whole and to the best of our knowledge we didn't do anything against the TOS or see anything against the TOS.

So we're gonna have to wait and see what happens but if you've got any questions we don't really have any answers;) In the meantime feel free to use the forums as there won't be any changes here.

If Facebook decides to bring the group back I'll post another update here also, and if we start another group etc I'll also post it here.

Take care!

Accessories & Ammo / Re: NiMH or Lipo for your guns
« on: January 09, 2019, 12:05:23 PM »
Lipo for me on all guns. I've been around a long time;) I started with NiCad cells back in 2001 and they worked, but size for capacity was an issue. Then NiMH became the standard but they were always a bit finicky back then in the rate of discharge which was low at the time(not sure if that changed). IE you could put out more current from a NiCAD which meant they were a better choice for upgraded guns. Granted that's nearly 20 year old info so take it with a grain of salt my memory may not be correct entirely but that was the theory.

Anyhow when I got back into the game back oh maybe 5-6+ years ago I started using lipo's since all of my batteries with my collection of guns had failed. I remember clearly the battery headaches of my early airsoft times. Good batteries mind you NiCAD cells from Sanyo etc, TM guns. None the less lipo's for me bar the headaches of storage(which are minor) and the need for a new charger rather than my old pro level NiCad/NiMH charger was soooo worth it. I honestly charge them before I play then I ignore them for sometimes months. I can shoot more, longer than any other battery chemistry I've tried. And size for capacity and form factor has opened up options that flat out weren't possible prior to lipos. I've used 7.4v 2s lipos in the buffer tube of an m4. Standard buffer tube nothing crazy, no battery PEQ style box etc. Enough so that I rear wired my now ancient CA M15A4 RIS carbine so that I could finally make the removal of the upper receiver actually easy without having to fight with wire routing.

So I'm entirely a lipo convert, I keep the old charger around for when I host games so guys still running NiMH/NiCAD can charge on it, but I'll never own any of the old chemistries. They come up with something better that is less volatile then I'd be interested otherwise I'm a lipo guy through and through;)

GAS / Re: Secondary for sniping
« on: July 23, 2018, 04:56:15 PM »
So yeah T6 is spot on, but if your pistol isn't able to shoot far enough(which is kinda silly) then it's an issue with the gun itself. You really only have to cover your MED distance with the backup, IE sub 100 foot. Most anything serviceable should be able to be accurate at 100 foot distances.

My own opinion, my favorite backup is a CYMA G18c AEP. It's simple, it works at any temp without issues, and it's got full auto like an SMG but fits in a typical pistol holster. In warm weather I generally will swap over to one of my KSC/KWA G18c guns since it uses the same holster etc. But I only need it for close up work, so it's sort of a non issue. Also one of the reasons I like the AEP is the low velocity because I can shoot someone nearly point blank and not hurt them. When I'm running my sniper rifle say in my ghillie there are enough times where someone comes upon me and doesn't know I'm there at all but ends up with a very close shot. So in those cases I'll either let them go or take them out with a handgun, and that AEP is a champ for that type of work.

They can be alright but I've had problems with the blowback chambers failing but for something that is fairly available they aren't a bad deal and with the mags probably not too bad.

AEG / Re: Is it worth it to switch to Lipo
« on: June 24, 2018, 05:17:24 PM »
That depends, so a 7.4v doesn't require anything just works. I'd wire to deans while you're at it but otherwise it should be about normal maybe slight ROF increase compared to an 8.4v NiCAD/NiMH. But with an 11.1v it completely depends on the gun you can have it just work, or you can get pre-engagement and strip a piston;) Or it might weld the trigger contacts first time out too. It's really an unknown once you start pushing higher voltage, there isn't anything wrong with that, but if you aren't tech savy I'd stick with 7.4v lipo's myself. If you want to fix stuff, start bumping up to 11.1v and fix as you go.

AEG / Re: Is it worth it to switch to Lipo

Yes in my opinion there virtually isn't any other type of battery I'd use in an AEG anymore:) And that's from someone who has been involved in the sport/hobby since the early 2000's. I started with NiCAD and later NiMH and then went lipo a few years ago. I'll never go back to using anything but lipo or some new battery chemistry.

Reason is both the ability to push power, but also they just hold so much more capacity wise and seem to be even less work to keep running well. Also within reason you can run most stock guns on a 2S 7.4v lipo without adding a lipo, and I haven't really seen too much of a detriment to trigger contacts and such over a NiCAD or NiMH battery in those cases. I've seen a few that failed, but I saw trigger contacts fail under the older batteries also. Now that said if you go to a 3S or 11.1V lipo then I'd recommend a mosfet, again you can skirt it for a while but that's a shorter run until the contacts fail.

Also a mosfet isn't a bad investment anyways for most guns doesn't need to be fancy(if you search I did a thread on cheap DIY mosfets), but overall I'd seriously go to a lipo and recommend it for guys. But you do need to research and learn the in's and out's of charging safely etc, but it's worth the learning curve.
