Also if something like this happens do send me or someone else on the mod/admin staff a message and I'll ban the account etc, along with killing their threads.

Up here in the UP we've talked about it since there are guys who've got weird schedules and during the week would be easier for them. I think that the only way it would work at least in what I've seen is running after work hours. Say a Thursday or Friday shorter game starting say at 6pm and running till 9pm or something of that sort. Because you're not going to have enough guys off during the day to run the game then, best bet is getting the guys who are working but don't mind coming out after work for a few hours and then the guys who have the day off.

It's something I've been thinking of trying up here, but this year has just been too busy to plan it and try it out, but maybe next year.

AEG / Very cool AEG design made in the USA
« on: November 02, 2017, 03:19:00 PM »
So I came across this and it's a few weeks old but I haven't seen anyone talking about it;)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LJYtYn7x0A&feature=youtu.be

So basically it's an AEG but it also has a precocking system with a sear. From what I understand looking at it and watching the video. At first I actually thought it was an open bolt design firing going forward from the sear. But further looking the cylinder(fake bolt), basically draws the piston to the rear cocking it onto a sear, then returns forward either by spring or cycle, I'd assume spring since it supposedly uses normal gears. So basically the cylinder is the loading mechanism cocking the piston and moving like a piston would in a typical AEG. But then when the trigger is pulled the piston flies forward shooting the BB, and I'm guessing a sensor or switch of some sort initiates the action cycling it to the rear repeating the process.

Overall this is actually not far off an idea I had, however I had no way to build it;) So I'm pretty interested to see how this goes. The downside is of course the price I heard around $1300 which is way out of my airsoft budget. But the concept is cool, and if the build quality is there I can see this being a 600-700 dollar gun that would be popular. Or possibly a conversion kit since I don't see a massive issue with the form factor etc of their box. They'd need a proprietary hopup chamber and a few other bits but it seems possible.

Either way this is a super interesting bit to me, it's got some of the realism of GBB but with the reliability hopefully of an AEG. Additionally cool is bolt lock back, along with the ability to use standard AEG mags. Both are things I would love to see happen across the board but this looks like the best implementation I've seen along with probably a great training platform for CQB with LEO environments etc. So we'll see where this goes but I'm excited, it's a cool idea and I hope it takes off and is reliable.

Happy Halloween to everyone as well! I didn't see this yesterday because my day with the kids is always crazy and adding to it my little one's birthday is also Halloween;) So it's a busy day around my house;)

I'm game to see pumpkin destruction though mine are honestly frozen solid up here;) So I don't think unless I break something very much louder out will I get destruction with an airsoft gun even my high FPS builds and that would be a Hickock 45 video at that point;)

Now since I'm not fully up to speed and a quick google search didn't clear things up;) Is this the same as the ECWCS line of gear? Since that's the only thing I've seen with levels and looking it up quick I've been catching gen 2 stuff.

If it is, then I do have a fair bit of experience with it. I like the gen3 stuff across the board better than the 1 and 2, I use it for wet weather and winter play. Unfortunately the easiest pattern to get is UCP/ACU which isn't great, but it works quite well during the winter months with full snow against maple trees. Which happens to be my play areas;)

Either way if it's ECWCS then I've done allot of testing and use, if it's something else I don't know much at all;)

Weather is good and an update on roster, camo and civy team are close to even currently have 23 confirmed, and another 12 maybe's. I'll update through the week as more are confirmed. And if guys who aren't on facebook would like to come, feel free to contact me for further information on how to make it to the game.

Scenario updated current roster is at least 18 confirmed, and we've got another 8-10 maybe's, so this looks like a very good game for down here. Should be a great chance to get out and sling BB's before the cold weather. And it's likely the last game you'll be able to really use those GBB pistols at until spring;) Right now the weather could be a little wet, but the temp should be in the 70's. So come on out and have a good time;)

Gerber back in the day was quite good. I still like their axes under fiskars but their knives aren't what they used to be.

Take care

My favorite for years has been the Kershaw Cryo 2. I had one that I killed by accidentally cutting into a 220v line;) And I replaced it with the same blade, my only complaint is the blade steel is 8CR13MOV, which isn't great but it does the job and it's easy enough to sharpen. It's around AUS8 quality and hardness in my experience but I prefer the 9CR13MOV to the 8 just a little more carbon and a little harder at the end of the day. But overall my favorite pocket knife for a long time now;)

You can find them on Ebay pretty easily at a decent price, but the 2 is bigger than the 1, so the 2 is by far the one I prefer. However I should also note it doesn't look too "tactical" so if you open it in public it doesn't quite scare people in the same manner as other tactical knives either. It's no fixed blade but it's pretty dang good;)

Airsoft Discussion / Re: MIA Craziness

Just a note, I changed the title of this thread as to not confuse guys. Canto(John's) event series Firestorm was the following thread and I kept seeing this title thinking it was related rather than being about this whole situation so rather than to confuse guys further I went ahead and changed the name to craziness rather than firestorm:)

Hope that makes sense, didn't want it tied to a current running game series now or even in the future when it comes up on google;)

Well I've got a new guy looking into some of the tech issues as well, so we may be making some additional changes to the forums to make them more usable and a tighter integration with Facebook as well. I don't think it will be a fast process, so I wouldn't expect anything really quickly. But I hope that it's going to not only improve the forums but the community as a whole.

On the traffic thing I think part of that is purely that allot of us are completely worn out on communicating after this last week;) I certainly am;)

So maybe take a few days for things to return to their normal pace here but we'll see. And with those changes it could change things as well so we'll just have to wait and see what can be figured out that will work best.

Forum News / Re: Current situation with MIA FB as well as forums.
« on: October 09, 2017, 12:57:47 PM »
Alright guys I wanted to post an update to the situation here most of you are probably in the loop but if not here is the current situation. We the staff who left started a new Facebook group for the forums in light of the situation above and honestly I really enjoyed myself over in the new group. It was a great atmosphere and I want to thank each and every guy who came over and was contributing to that new setup. I want to say that at the point where we started the new group and just speaking for myself here I didn't think it was possible to reconcile the situation. I know most guys were feeling the same way but I also don't want to speak for them either. So it seemed like the best path forward given the circumstances.

Yesterday negotiations started again, and just to be clear those of us who left were willing to come back so long as a neutral trusted mod was put into the admin position on MIA. Someone we knew wouldn't cause a problem like this going forward and would abide by the decisions of the rest of the staff. The sticking point was who that would be, and I want to say everyone who was suggested would probably have been fine. But after all that had happened I think all of us wanted to insure that without a doubt this wouldn't be an issue again. So Andrew G was appointed to that position over the group by agreement his name is Gimpalong on here and I believe most of you know him from quite a few years as a mod/admin on MIA. So now he is in place as the "owner" of sorts on paper, he doesn't have any more power over the group he just enforces the elevation or removal of power within the group based on a vote from the staff.

For those wondering about positions within MIA, and the age of those guys or their activity. On the staff are some very active guys and some less active guys. That doesn't change their ability to do their job, and it balances the group as a whole with input and a variety of experiences. We have hardcore milsim guys, rec players and everything in between. And some of us play a combination of those things, at the end of the day that helps the community. It also provides a necessary check and balance against teams or players being unfairly treated by staff. We all have different team/field affiliations and that diversity is what insures MIA going forward can keep doing what it's done for all these years.

I know that some guys are frustrated with the apparent slow movement of MIA as a whole, but honestly it's not a bug it's a feature. It keeps it alive long term, and we're one of the oldest airsoft organizations out there. And there is nothing stopping guys from stepping into roles within the community as a whole and getting into leadership positions. Generally if you are a super level headed guy, you're following the rules and respected by the community. You can expect that someone might ask you to step into that role. It's not something done on any schedule, but it does happen as needed, and it can be proposed by anyone on staff who thinks it's necessary.

So to close this out, we are all back in position on the Michigan Airsoft group, because we felt it was the best way to keep the community as a whole together. Speaking for myself I hope we can cultivate the same open and inviting atmosphere going forward on the group, as well as the forums. Less drama more slinging BB's;)

Take care!

I locked and removed your other thread. One commerce thread at a time, and you can "bump" them once every 24 hours if they fall off the main page etc.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Advice for weapon system.
« on: October 08, 2017, 12:59:22 PM »
On the gun you'll have to decide a few things one the type of platform whether gas or electric. I'd argue that electric is more practical, but less realistic. Gas is more fun, but a heck of allot more work to keep running and bar some examples doesn't do as well in colder weather. For myself that puts me on the electric side of the equation since I play year round.

Either way will give you semi/full generally by default because that's the most common fire modes. But electric I know with certainty you can swap to burst using a simple mosfet, even inline. So don't base your initial purchase on that part. Base it on the quality of the platform etc. On GBB I'm not sure but probably most would have an option for burst, I do know the polarstars and that HPA side do, but I'm not sure on the typical gas guns I don't have much experience with their workings to say. @T6e9a would probably have a better idea there.

The Mags, depends on platform but AEG mags are much cheaper. So add that into the cost idea for the whole setup and how many mags you want. Coming from real firearms(my background/current as well), generally speaking in most events you'll use far more ammo than you would with a real firearm. One BB doesn't equal one round of ammo it's just not that effective except in certain scenarios. So expect to double or triple your ammo consumption you'd expect from a real firearm. Again my 2 cents, but that seems to be the case most of the time.

Batteries, see the other post;)

Eye/face stuff, I like mesh masks just get a steel one that fits fair, then bend it to the shape of your face so it doesn't create hot spots and they work pretty well stopping teeth damage and the like. Eye's you're going to be looking at some sort of rated full seal. I'll let other guys jump in there, I own allot but most of my eyepro is old and no longer available. But ESS and other goggles that were used overseas are a good option if available. But fogging may be an issue, at a minimum get a thermal lens goggle. Which has two layers like a thermal window in a house. That helps with fog but may not solve it. I've got a post here were I built a fan system into my helmet to solve my fogging issues.

I might have more but that gives you a start;)
