Indecisive Vic's 'What Handgun? ' Thread! 2015 edition!
« on: July 07, 2015, 02:41:23 PM »
So, i know this is the second time I post this, but I'm looking for a GBB/NBB sidearm. Criteria much looser this time. Budget $120-ish.

First, huge plus if it's a 1911, or a CZ-P07 or P09. Otherwise, most models welcome with exceptions.

Must be:
-Green Gas. Will consider co2 with personal vouch.
-Reliable/durable
-Repairable (great if TM compatible)
-Metal where it matters.
-Slightly more interested in gbb, but not against nbb if gas consumption is good.
-Gas efficiency is a huge plus
-Slight plus if barrel threaded.

NOT interested in:
-M9 variants.
-FN FiveseveN variants.
-Used guns, unless seller is well known on MiA, and familiar with GBBs and/or NBBs.

What are your thoughts on KJWs line of 1911s?

What are your thoughts on KJWs line of 1911s?

I've had my eye on them. Gas consumption is allegedly pretty high on those, but reliability for the price is nothing to shake a stick at, considering the next step is KWA, and the asking price goes up.

The 1911A1 seems interesting. Its on my list with the ASG CZ P-9

I personally consider KWA to make the best pistols. I have had 3 of them and my 2 buddies have them too and they are always reliable and the recoil is damn snappy too.

KWA is a little bit out of my budget.

I think I really want a 1911, but I guess there's things I still don't understand, like is a green gas gun more durable/reliable  than a co2 one?

Personally I prefer green gas.  A can of propane with oil added to it (if you don't have a propane adapter with an oil port you can always get one of these and treat an entire can of propane at once)
will last you a good long while.  A can of propane is cheap, and a little container of oil will last forever (comes with the kit linked above if you don't already have some)

As far as reliability they are both gas so will both suffer in colder weather.  There is a difference in the cost of mags (CO2 seem to be more expensive) I haven't used both in airsoft so can't really compare. But I have no complaints with my KWA ATP using propane with oil added to it.

Green gas/propane is the way to go. CO2 shoots way too hot, you won't be able to use it in close encounters, which kind of negates the whole purpose of a sidearm. Not to mention that CO2 is significantly more stressful on GBB internals.

So here are some candidates for the job.

 http://www.evike.com/products/28054/

I prefer the more modern 1911s , but the a1 comes at a pretty good price.

Also, for only $10 extra I can get a co2 mag, which yes I'd prefer a green gas mag, but for $10? Tempting...

If you go 1911 I'd look hard at a double stack. While not as good of a feel in the hand as a single stack the extra gas reservoir room is worth it for me. I've generally had fair luck with single stacks over the years but when they start getting worn and gas efficiency starts to go down you don't have nearly the amount of leeway same with lower temps.

So the A1 is the only single stack in the ones I've shared, right?

The first and third are both single stacks. I have the KP-05 myself, and it absolutely rocks. I can generally get around 2 full mags out of single fill. I run .23s in mine, (Granted I pretty much run .23s in all of my guns besides my Maruzen) and the accuracy and range greatly surpassed my expectations. Overall, I'd say it's by far the best bang for your buck.

*EDIT* Don't bother with the Co2 mag. I bought one with mine and it never worked properly. Every couple shots it just simply wouldn't fill the gas chamber and I'd have to re-rack the slide causing double feeds. The mag was more than likely just a lemon, but I wouldn't really advise using Co2 anyways.

I think I'm gonna go for the KP-07. I know  that Luke said double stacks have more fuel space, but if you say the single stacks hold 2 full mags worth, I'd say that's plenty good for me.

The KP-05 (the one I own that gets ~2 mags per fill) is a double stack, not a single. I would highly recommend getting the double over the single.

Yep with a single stack best case you might get a few more shots than the mag holds in most cases. Cool down though is also much more of an issue with single stack overall double stacks just work better. This coming from a guy who carrys a single stack as my normal daily carry gun, I'd rather they worked better but I haven't had allot of luck with them.
