Airsoft Discussion / Re: Your Gear Progression!

Probably not 3 then, as that was my first event ever and that was 2006 iirc.  It is just that the 2nd fellow behind your right with the shemagh, woodland, and what looks to be a crossdraw vest reminds me of my early years playing.  I am pretty sure at Flash Fire 3 I was wearing a full paintball mask though.

Pagan, do you know which Flash Fire your one photo is from?  I ask because someone nearby you looks familiar if it was Flash Fire 3.

Favorite has to be the Island Thunder one.  It has that "freelance ship security" cross with "rogue boat captain"  look. ;D

Airsoft Discussion / Re: Airsoft ROF - Which do you prefer and why?
« on: September 29, 2016, 04:59:35 PM »
I'm probably one of the more hesitant folks in terms of tech, but from the last few times I have played in the past 2 years, I have a few thoughts to make.

  • The rise of semi auto only has naturally been responded to with these faster trigger responses or rof builds, but I also feel that the issue of overshooting has either remained the same or increased in response.
  • I would honestly now prefer getting hit with a single burst than by someone whose semi auto results in me feeling like I just got hosed down by a SAW.
  • Regarding smgs, I would probably endorse being allowed full auto within a certain fps limit, perhaps as long as the replica in question doesn't have a hicap.  I think it delves into whether it also be limited to number of magazines as well.  For example, myself with my bizon replica and one hilariously sized magazine versus a person with a dedicated mp5 setup with more magazines and means of swapping between them/reloading.  How would that feel from the viewpoint of an opposing player who is semi only with their typical ar replica?

I do for the most part appreciate the semi auto system, but I feel that more kinks have to be ironed out if the goal is to have a "balanced" game mindset versus a "steamroller" mindset that at times has shown itself at games.

TLDR:  I feel like I have seen much more overshooting in the past few years than when I started out, and I am too technically inept to understand things to find an ideal balance.

After Action Reports / AAR: Bastards Rec Game @ Dirty Paintball 9/24/16

I'm a bit muddled from the after game drain still (had to go help clean a church right as I got home), but just want to give a shout out to all the folks that came out today, and to The Bastards for herding us cats around all day.   ;)

I enjoyed meeting all sort of players today, by hand and of course by fire.  It kinda seemed that the small gaggle we had fitted the field areas well, as even the speedball zone felt good once we went into the bomb game mode.

To my fellow Ruskies, a toast to you, you made Potat proud!  Glad to meet all of you (did not expect to see so many cousins when I turned back from the chrono area), and I'm glad I was able to help out, and for you all in return to put up with me.  That two man ambush in the ridge line will forever be a grand airsoft memory for me.  I am also now convinced at how well Yagel is in Michigan woodland.  I'll have to pick a suit up sometime.

Anyways, thanks again for a wonderful day!

On the fence at the moment, just wondering about waivers and whatnot.

Somehow able to type now, figured I'd be knocked out.

For as hot as it was, today was perhaps one of the better hot days I've had at a field in years.  Grounds were nice and dry so no getting stuck like last month for some folks.  Lots of skeeters towards the wooded areas, but not as heavy as I thought there would be (helps to wear a baggy oversuit).  I'm sure most people today liked the castle skirmishes, but I was glad it wasn't the only part of the property we got to sling plastic on (even if I spent most of the time on the other fields wandering about or holing up somewhere).  Certainly glad to have brought plenty of hydration, and kudos to all the folks helping others out with hydration and other matters.

Team SK and friends, you still got that magic of making a day run smoothly (as much as herding the equivalent of cats can be).  Thanks for putting up with me throughout the day, I enjoyed chewing the fat with you all during the breaks under the canopy.

It was enjoyable to see the diverse group we got today, and I hope that folks enjoyed their time out and plan to come back again.

Good luck to all of you with muscle pain and/or sunburns.

Is that where all the pictures seem to go as well?  I've never been a part of facebook so trying to find out things now is somewhat conflicting.

Anyways, we'll see how it turns out.

I said I'd make a post, and by golly no amount of pain is going to stop me!

It's been nearly 2 years since I last got out to this field and the camaraderie of Pagan and the SK crew.  I met quite a lot of new blood and old alike, got to talk/shoot alongside my "cousins", and overall had a blast.  Rain didn't drown us all, and the breeze, whilst providing some wonky shots, was quite a welcome feeling.  For once nothing broke down or got lost for me (save for the "lost keys in trunk" incident), and I had perhaps the greatest day in well over a year.

I'm sure others will pitch in about the games and whatnot, but I will say this:  Despite getting whupped multiple times, today was perhaps the most pleasant time getting whupped.  I only wish I could have Davai'd harder.

Thanks to all the SK crew and friends who helped herd all of us cats around out there, and thank you sincerely for such an experience.  Folks might think it crazy to drive halfway across the state for a Rec game, but I'd do it every weekend if I could. ;D

SPRING / Re: TM VS JG BAR-10

I suppose another thought process is whether or not for either brand you can find one cheaply with some of the parts you want in it already.  I've wanted a bone stock TM GSPEC for some time, but trying to find a shop that stocks one stateside is equivalent to banging my head against the wall.  You'll see more complete builds/part outs for sale I feel, and the boneyard ones on various eshops could be a swing or miss.

Airsoft Discussion / Re: Trends in airsoft

Sometimes I swear I feel old when folks talk about Russian kit being a recent upsurge.

Honestly, I think it is because there is a lot more variety to be had within the framework of "Russian" kit than what you see for your common loadouts.  It ranges from "throw random bits together with a Kalash" to dedicated loadouts of the MVD, the Recon detachments of the Army, etc.  Sure, you can say the same for US and NATO, but the diversity of Russian patterns and kit against the sea of Multicam and plate carriers feels wide.

The thing I am seeing the most of being a trend with the past two years is these beasts of semi/burst builds that quite frankly worry me.

I won't go into a rant about most things I saw, and honestly it was a shite day for me besides meeting some good "cousins", but two things stand out.

1.  I observed the refs that were chronoing had at one point their goggles off for multiple people, which to me screams "I do not want to go near them with any replica."  I honestly don't know why chronoing could not be done at the station right next to the building, as it was were I first figured it would be by instinct.

2.  I used to go to this field back when Canto and others ran games there, mostly winter but some games in the spring and summer.  I've been to Hole in the Wall, SFOD's old field, Hell's survivors, No Limit's, etc.  I once spent 3+ hours wandering in Bangor by myself climbing and sliding down the ridges and lord knows what else.  My point is that I am used to various forms of terrain at these fields.  Whatever TCP has done to the property (or not done in some places) has by far made it the most unsafe and non-satisfying field I have been on in some years.  The area that used to be the trenches that is supposedly filled in now for those concrete pillars, I found several spots that are easy to lose an ankle to, even a half filled up-curve of a trench.  The growth in various areas is just immense compared to how it was years back, making some areas simply unapproachable (and of course adding to the misery of the woods).  Even had my day not been so sour, I honestly don't think I would come back despite how close TCP is to me because of what I witnessed of the terrain.

Basically get there early to try and form a perimeter of parking spaces compared to the paintball groups.   :P

Let's just hope the field hasn't turned to complete muck with all the rain recently.

(and that I remember how to properly charge my old fashioned nimh battery)

Tomorrow has been on my mind for a few days now, since it has been so long since i have been on that field (or any field really).  Got a waiver filled out and cash on hand, but folks know I am all wish wash about actually getting out.  Closest place by far and if "cousins" are going to show up, I best go see them (plus I still need to retrieve my spare stick battery from puma  ;)  )

May I ask how early the gates will open?  I tend to get to places early (especially this field being so close) and I rather not end up cruising about for some time.

If I do manage to drag myself out, it will likely be Dice.  Puma can throw me wherever he needs another body.

Always love the field days you hosted in Taylor, but I am pretty sure my cousin's wedding is the day before and who knows if I will even get back home before Monday (Have to travel and stay in hotel and no one tells me a darn thing about details).

Anyways, hope the weather turns out nice, way too much rain lately.
