So I'm on the hunt for a WE-TECH Glock 17 blowback housing for a used gun I picked up. Basically I've got a small piece broken from this one causing some cycling issues. I can't find new in stock ones other than an Angel's Custom one from Evike and I just don't trust the brand at all.

So I'm hunting for a used one or one someone replaced with an "upgrade" etc. If you've got one in your bin shoot me a note;)

Here is a picture of the part, this is the Guarder version which is slightly different at the rear. Though if I can't find one used I'm planning on trying to modify this style to fit the WE slide.

Take care!

Clothing & Load Bearing Gear / Combats shirts
« on: April 17, 2016, 10:58:03 AM »
So guys I'm curious I haven't owned a combat shirt with the wicking type material in the middle. Never saw them until I came back to airsoft last year but curious how well they work.

I got heat exhaustion back around 8 years ago while I was down in Texas and since I've never been able to take the heat very well at all. Before that it never bothered me. But now if the sun is out and its above 70 I can get dizzy and have issues. Obviously this has been an issue with airsoft during the warm months thankfully not during the winter months playing.

None the less it's warming up and playing yesterday in the mid 70's I could tell it was starting to effect me some. So I'm looking at more options.

Last year I ran ice packs on my inside pouches in my vest when it was really hot and that helped some. But yesterday I started thinking about combat shirts. It seems I'm more sensitive to sun than heat. So I tend to wear thin long sleeves but with bdu tops they are fairly heavy material at least compared to button up shirts I normally wear. And typically that means I'll wear an od tshirt or something like that under my plate carrier to keep my temp down.

But I'd love to hear how you guys like them and how they work out. Since I'll either be making some or buying them depending on price and availability in the camo patterns I normally run.

Take care

Luke

Tech Questions / HOWTO - Glock 18c AEP Lipo mod TM/CYMA
« on: April 07, 2016, 12:28:39 PM »
So guys and gals this will be somewhat short and won't include pictures in the process just the finished result and a description of how I did it, since I did this quite a while ago but should be pretty easy to follow along.

Things you'll need:
Dead AEP battery or one you don't care about since it won't be functional afterwards
Solder, and soldering iron
hot glue
deans connectors male and female
heatshrink for the connections or electrical tape in a pinch
multi meter
Turnigy Nano 300mah 2s Lipo https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=59263

So here is my finished piece:

What your seeing there in short is the end of the NIMH AEP battery soldered to a deans male connector and then hotglued together to give it some strength. Then a deans connector on the small Turnigy Lipo with black tape on the connection because I didn't have small enough heat shrink at the time.

How to do it:
First check polarity of the connection to insure your later soldering to the right positions, do this before taking it apart.

So take your existing AEP battery, carefully remove the end cap off the battery. You'll have to peel the heat shrink back on the battery to get to it, likely break the tabs. But make sure to leave enough contact to solder to, also try not to break the parts you'll be keeping. The battery is toast, so if you need to break that fine, but do be careful since the battery will still have some voltage and can be dangerous.

Next solder the deans connector to the contacts try to keep it close and short, so it takes as little room as possible. Once you get a good electrical connection there. You can just build up some hot glue around the connection to insulate it and make sure it's tough enough to go in and out of the slot without coming apart, as well as unplug and plug the deans connection when you take it apart to charge.

So now you have a deans adapter for the gun more less, you can hook any deans battery to your AEP now, but it's time to make one fit in the slide without modifying the gun.

So take the battery, cut the leads one at a time and solder them to the female deans connector. I used about an inch of wire per lead. Make sure to keep them short since they will sit between the battery and your adapter. Leave your balance charge port alone, since you'll need that as well, it will ride in the same position as the wires you'll see later. Shrink the connections so they are safe, or wrap it with tape. Alternately you can goop some hot glue on there to insulate the connection then tape it which is what I did at the time since I didn't have small enough shrink tubing handy.

Now you've pretty much got the whole thing, to install slide the adapter into the slot like normal with the arrow oriented the right direction(alternatively if you screwed up the polarity earlier you could slide it in backwards and make it work without redoing everything, however remember what your doing so you don't screw up). Once the adapter is in place gently push the lipo and wires into position. Then install your slide, be careful not to pinch the balance wires since they are prone to getting out of position and getting in the way.

Overall this is a pretty easy mod and works great, it's pretty easy to change the battery. For those concerned about capacity, I haven't had an issue. I don't use my AEP much though it gets some use most games since it's my close range gun when I'm running my sniper rifle. I'm not sure what the max ammo count is but likely around 300 rounds per charge maybe more. Fire rate increases a fair amount for the NiMH cell because it can thrown down power more efficiently. I haven't had any issues with durability at all, it's been running this way in my gun for around a year now and it's been great.

Any questions feel free to ask them here.

Take care!

Luke

EDIT: Note this isn't a "new" idea, well maybe the way I did it is new. But I've seen other guys modify lipos to fit etc, so there are other guides out there that gave me the idea. And I just did it this way since you can use old original batteries, or lipos etc. Also you could solder the battery directly to the top of the battery cap to get more room and use a larger battery, then chop your old charger to hook to your charger etc. Or you can use a smaller connector since the full sized deans is a bit large. So feel free to modify as you see fit, I just haven't had the urge since it works, and I don't need more capacity. I only charge this battery every 3-4 games at this rate so it's pretty much a non-issue for me it might be for you.

EVENT DESCRIPTION:

Operation Ice Melt

SCENARIO GAME RULES AND INFO
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MEDIC RULES:
Specified players are medics, 1 medic respawns before going to mobile/master respawn, then repeat cycle. Once shot a teammate needs to get to the down person, place there hand on their shoulder or other body part IE foot etc. then count off twenty slowly. Once a twenty count is reached then both players are up and active again. If contact is lost with the shoulder or counting is interrupted then they need to start over again from one. For example if your reviving a player and you take fire and decide to return fire then you’ll need to start at one again to revive them. The person shot can decide if they want to call for a medic or just return to the respawn based on the number of players around. So if you get shot and you're behind enemy lines, or just a long distance from any teammates you can elect to just return to the master/mobile respawn.

RADIOS: There will be team designated channels, as well as an admin/staff channel, and an emergency medical channel. If there is a medical emergency all gameplay stops and it’s expected for everyone to relay that to the other players in their area. Leaders for each team are expected to have radios to be able to communicate with command and keep the game running as expected.

OUTDOOR/OPEN FIELD ENGAGEMENT LIMITS**
• 1 - 349 fps - Arms length engagement limit
• 350 - 400 fps - 20 foot engagement limit
• 400 - 549 fps – 50 foot engagement limit, bolt action or permanent* semi-auto replicas only
• 550+ fps - Prohibited or allowed with permission of event organizer only

*Permanent semi-auto refers to replicas that do not have full-auto fire capability, no matter how the selector switch or other user input device is manipulated.
**The FPS rules for my games will be lenient for players who have shown good judgement etc. Exceptions can be made for certain people and guns, but I do reserve the right to not allow guns if guys are using them in some way that doesn’t make sense. End of the day we’re out there to have fun and not hurt people, so that’s the goal.

BACKGROUND:

After the nukes fell in 1981 during the height of the cold war, it became a much hotter war than any of us really had thought possible. The Soviet Union of the time was seen as an old dog without teeth, though that certainly wasn’t the case. They may not have had the arms they spoke of in their propaganda but they had enough to send us into a Nuclear hell. In the same token our retaliatory strikes did the same to them. Since those dark days some of us have survived, though the major cities were completely destroyed, and the surrounding area was scorched and blasted to oblivion. Some of us were lucky that day, the winds blew most of the fallout away from our area in the Upper Peninsula.

So here we are 35 years later trying to live our lives, it’s very different than it was before the nukes fell. But life is always life, there will always be fighting it’s human nature. The fight of the have and have not's. It all started with the Bandits, they began robbing anyone of anything of use to help them survive. They weren’t alone, but they were certainly the largest and most organized group. Their tactics however really is what set most people’s stomachs on edge. They would murder women, children really anyone who had something they wanted and take it. I’ll admit many of our own group of Gunners started as Bandits, but found the murder of innocent people too distasteful to continue down that road. So over time we formed the Gunners with more of a focus on Military like discipline, we even enacted laws within our group and follow our own set of rules of engagement. Note, we will kill anyone who tries to kill us, we’re not pacifists. But we also don’t go out of our way to kill innocent folks especially those not involved in the current feud.

OUTLINE:

With the melting of the snow we knew the fighting would begin again. Our long hard winters are a break from fighting one another and a chance for mother nature to get in a punch or two itself. None the less the constant battles between the Gunner and Bandit groups has flared up again and it’s no surprise to either group. It all started this spring with a Bandit attack on the Gunner convoy relaying supplies between their main base to their Northern Outpost. Bandits stole all of the supplies and murdered the convoy guards which really started another years escalation of force. With the scarcity of food and supplies I don’t see any end to the bloodshed in sight until of course winter comes again and the temperatures drop to -40F once again.

Forum News / Commerce feedback reminder
« on: March 25, 2016, 01:04:19 PM »
So I just wanted to post a reminder for guys, I know we did feedback threads for users for years and you still can but do remember we have the "trader feedback" system in place. I'm as guilty as anyone of forgetting to put up feedback after buying and selling. But this system gives us almost an Ebay like feedback system for users.

If you want to leave feedback for someone just click on their name, then in the middle near the bottom click "submit feedback for so and so" and then put in the info and it will link to their profile.

If you want to view feedback just click their name and click on the number next to "trade count" and you can view all their feedback and what people thought of doing business with them.

It should be allot easier than hunting down a thread of feedback and make it easier for guys buying as well to quickly check the feedback on the seller right from looking at their listing.

So just a reminder that the feature is there for guys to use!

Take care

Clothing & Load Bearing Gear / Sling bags
« on: March 22, 2016, 12:36:57 PM »
So guys I've got a question and you might have the answer. Sling bags are something I've not tried. But I'm looking to put together something to compliment my normal sniper loadout. I don't typically run my plate carrier when I'm running a sniper rifle and right now I've been running my VSR10 mags in pistol pouches on a belt along with my glock for close range and a dump pouch. That's been my lightweight setup. But since I recently built up a semi auto M16 as another sniper rifle I'm looking for a way to carry M16 mags as well and I could just setup or make some M4 pouches for the belt but I've started looking at some sort of light weight bag to carry a couple mags and maybe radio and a few other bits and pieces.

Enter the sling pack: http://www.ebay.com/itm/281512029134?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&var=580540985108&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

That's the one I'm looking at mostly because this will be a very small light weight setup, so I don't need a backpack. If I did I've got a couple from medium to large but they are too cumbersome on the field for what I need with me. So I'm curious to hear opinions from guys who run backpacks as well as smaller sling packs or something of the sort. How do they work out, do you like the size of whatever your running do you want something bigger? Just generally how it's worked out for your particular loadout. My current plan is to put a double mag pouch on the molle for M4 mags, then use minor other bits inside. I might however set it up differently once I get it and start playing around with it.

I'm also planning on adding a ghillie to my summer gear this year, and I'm planning on putting some jute either in a cover fashion I can easily remove or just attached to the rig to help it conceal a bit better. But it also may become a bit of a sand bag for shooting off of when I'm actually sitting in position for a longer period of time. Since I don't run a bipod on either rifle it might be useful there though I'll admit since I don't currently carry a bag I'm not sure how often I'd use it that way. Likely it would remain on my back most of the time unless I needed more ammo etc.

So opinions and ideas would be more than welcome, I know this is a super cheap china bag. But mostly my theory is to try the style see how it works out then if I find the quality isn't up to my standards either copy it myself out of 1000d cordura since I've got several yards of it here handy, or buy something built better but with some different changes in build quality.

Take care!

Tech Questions / Simple durable DIY mosfet design?
« on: March 14, 2016, 04:50:01 PM »
Well guys I'm looking around for a simple durable mosfet, no fancy features needed just basic trigger contact protection. I can solder and I can assemble things but a electronics designer I'm not. I've never really spent the time researching to understand how to design circuits or really know what components to use. In the past I've looked at some howto's but generally things are out of date, either guys have found different components etc and since I don't know enough about what components are equal I really don't know what to substitute.

So I'm hoping one of you guys have gone into this and found a simple list of components and a wiring diagram that is still current in the sense that the components are easy to get and cheap.

My whole reason for this, some of you know I've got a fairly large collection of guns. Well I had a mosfet in my stubby M4, it failed. So I had to replace it with the only other mosfet I had laying around and I don't honestly trust it since I know nothing of how it was built and it looks like a cobble. So I'd like to be able to build around 10 of these for various guns and builds I've got. So I could buy something prefab for $15 or whatever they run these days, but I'd rather just be able to build them out as needed and repair them by swapping parts etc.

Any insight would be appreciated!

Airsoft Discussion / Airsoft game types
« on: March 09, 2016, 02:31:54 PM »
Well guys I'd like to start a little discussion, I've been playing airsoft a long time and back in the day if I'm honest I seldom saw all the game types that we see(I assume elsewhere) in small pickup games etc. For an example that most should know who have watched the Youtube airsoft channel of say Jet DesertFox is something like trouble in terrorist town. From what I've heard it's got a basis in video games somewhere but I'm gonna be honest I haven't really been involved in gaming in quite a few years either so if there is a link it's not one I'm familiar with. None the less it's sparked a bit of a curiosity.

The place I frequently play locally has some game types I'd never heard of until playing there and they do mix up the normal team vs team gameplay that was common back in the day. I will say I still tend to prefer more of a team vs. team setup but I'm also not opposed to mixing it up with some other fun variations on that front. But in my reading and research typically I have run into a ton of things that honestly just don't look well thought out or like they would work in the real world. I might insult some people but allot of them sound like they were written by a super secret squirrel 13 year old...

So I'd like to gather some insight from you all for game types you've found enjoyable and things to mix it up. This is far more applicable to REC or pickup style games than actual scenario's however if there is say a part of this that might bridge over between the two I'd also like to hear that. In essence I'm looking for ideas to make smaller REC style games more fun for the players. Which I think has merit for the community as a whole as well as myself when I'm organizing games as well as a few of the surrounding groups.

For those who don't know me, I'm located in the UP and we have zero for organized play etc across the entire UP. I've been working to organize some of the smaller groups into something a little more cohesive the last year. But it's going to be a long road, and since there isn't anyone else hosting games, and there isn't any fields or infrastructure we pretty much have made it up as we've gone along over the years. Back when I had less responsibilities and 2 less kids;) I used to travel often down to play with you guys in lower Michigan but these days it's just not an option most of the time. I'd like to make it down to a few of the larger games this summer/fall but it's very much up in the air.

So to recap ideas and gameplay modes that you guys have enjoyed in game along with some details or a link to somewhere I can get the rules and details would be great. As well explain what you liked about them, maybe we can get a running thread to generate some ideas. One caveat if it's a game play style you haven't actually played that's fine, but make sure to mention it. Since my bias is towards things that have actually been tried and tested that work. Feel free to duplicate the choices of others just gives me more information to go on for popularity's sake.

Take care!

Clothing & Load Bearing Gear / Chemical protection camo
« on: March 03, 2016, 06:25:54 PM »
So guys I've got a fair bit of surplus, and I come across things in trade from gun shows etc. One of the reasons I've got a pile of like new military boots sitting a few feet from me right now;) Well I had some chemical suits, basically the old school charcoal lined, tri color and woodland camo jackets. I knew from warning's from others that they will make a mess. I can't say I was surprised it was messy but how messy was impressive;) For guys not in the know these things put out a black dust that is hard to get off anything. My hands are black right now despite trying to wash them up;) Anyways worthless for me with the liner, and the wife would kill me if I tried to wash it in her washer to get them to the point they didn't loose the dust. So after doing some reading around I decided to cut the liner out of the jacket. Then shake it out good, and used a blow off tool in my shop to get 99% of the dust out of it. Now it's fairly clean I'll likely send it through a wash cycle one of these days when my wife isn't looking just to get the last residual bits out.

None the less I just tried it on a few hours ago after cutting the liner out, and I gotta say it's sort of interesting. Allot of guys don't like them apparently, I sort of do. Sleeve pockets much like new BDU's but more heavily built since it's that rubber coated fabric used in all sorts of mil suits. Two chest pockets that open towards the center which would be fair access wearing a vest, less so with a plate carrier. Mostly though I like the way it's cut, and fits. Maybe it's my build but it's a bit more snug than normal tops, and I think will fit better under a plate carrier. Little longer sleeves which is a plus since I'm pretty dang tall and short sleeves riding up bugs me.

So I'm curious if anyone else has fiddled with these or even cut the liner out etc, so far I'm digging it. And from what I know they are cheap, so it might be a deal if your willing to cut the liner out and clean up the mess;) I did that outdoors even though it's just over 20 degree's today;) So I'm curious to hear experiences, I haven't played with it yet since I just cut it today. And the snow is still heavy enough I'm running ACU till it melts, then I'll transition back to my normal woodland camo for the warm weather.

Take care!

Luke
