Off Topic / Re: My son's contractor loadout;)
« on: June 02, 2015, 02:57:22 PM »
Strangely Walmart of all places;) I was looking around for a toy or something interesting last week when we were in town. I saw some backpacks with toy guns and I thought that was a little lame but alright. Started looking for squirt guns and things like that he would get a kick out of but couldn't find anything I thought he could run well etc. Since he has a bit of trouble with the trigger pull or how much pressure it takes so I was looking for something decently built with a light trigger but didn't find much. Well making another lap near the backpack/gun combo's in ACU I saw behind them an OD plate carrier type of rig with a backpack as well;) And at that point I knew it would be his, since it was just too cool;)

The mag pouches are too small for anything but maybe pistol mags in real life to give an idea of scale. But it came with a little rubber kabar knock off and two grenades as well. The grenades fit in the pockets and I might make a sheath for the knife for him to mount on the strap;) I'm thinking about making a small 3 point sling setup for the gun, as well I'll likely take and mask the muzzle so it stays orange and paint the rest of the gun with an OD base with some camo on top of that just to make it cooler;)

He's also got a 1911 that I had as a kid which is like 60% scale and just clicks the hammer on each trigger pull DAO like. Which he's got a holster for out of my misfit items from the shop, and once he's a little older I've got an anniversary NRA BB pistol revolver that is the same size as a Colt Single Action. But it's going to wait until he's older and capable of handling it, not that it shoots hard enough to be very dangerous but still.

One thing I'd like to find and haven't looked for is what I think of as the genesis to airsoft. I had little BB pistols as a kid they were orange and the BB's came on a sheet with little connecting pieces. Basically you tore the BB's off the sheet and they were shot/thrown from the gun with a little spring loaded arm basically that physically hit the BB to fling it out of the barrel, they were accurate to about 4 feet but they were really not dangerous and would be a good start to him and his cousins playing with projectile firing items;) I thought about nerf but I can't justify the expense of the darts with how many they will loose. If I can find some of the little guns like I had I'm pretty sure they will fire airsoft BB's, and dirty or not won't matter with the way they were built. So they could run around my yard and shoot any of the thousands of BB's that are all over around the house and have virtually unlimited ammo;)

Michigan Commerce - Airsoft Guns Allowed / Re: WTB: ACU/UCP camo
« on: June 01, 2015, 09:36:31 PM »
Hey guys actually did some testing found some large long's around here to try out and I'm not sure the fit is still right actually might need medium long it looks like. So based on that and being short on cash I'm going to lock this down until I get a chance to have a few bucks to further up this whole dye project idea.

Alrighty Youtube is working now for embedding but you need to use the "youtube" tags like you would "img" or anything like that, basically

It doesn't autoload everything until you click the still image but then it embeds like normal.

Disregard all that info now just paste the video link into a post, and it will embed automatically.

Take care!

Forum News / New feature added to the site - image attachment
« on: May 20, 2015, 03:08:33 PM »
Well guys I just took a minute and changed the attachment code on the site and added an option. When you put up a post right above the post your going to see a link "Add image to post" that will allow you to upload a picture to the same service the old MIA used for image hosting. It's still better to host them yourself so you can control the content a little more but for commerce posts etc where you just want to toss in a picture it should work just fine.

So feel free to use that then you won't run into the small attachment problem with the new forum.

Take care!

Tech Questions / Re: DIY Chronograph
« on: May 20, 2015, 02:53:28 PM »
Another update, need some time to do further testing. I'll say results are consistent if not accurate. I borrowed another chrono and it's conflicting with the results from my DIY. I don't 100% trust the results though because there are some weird things that don't make allot of sense. So I'm waiting till I can borrow another fancier chrono to compare the three and see if I can't get things dialed in as close as possible.

Really though this project if for no other reason has been a great diagnostic tool when rebuilding and changing guns since I can chrono before and after a change to insure what results changed. So more info coming soon in the next few weeks likely with some more in depth results and maybe a video of the function of it.

Take care!

AEG / Re: Rhop my experiences thus far
« on: May 20, 2015, 02:47:01 PM »
Another update of experiences. My Sniper rifle bar the spring problem I mentioned in another thread is shooting very consistently at up to around 100 yards now I'm quite happy with it. Though I did tear things apart and work over the hopup area again and managed to correct a hooking problem. I had a little burr of rubber on the rhop that started hooking right after a while. I might not have broken the edge of the patch well enough before installing it. Either way that corrected and with little wind it's working very well.

One thing I've noticed that I don't recall if I mentioned above, the effect of rhop seems to be a more gradual hop effect. With an ordinary bucking I find when you overhop that it goes over a short range very high up. With rhop it's more gradual and as a result I'm finding a touch of overhop will gain a fair bit more range than how I used to adjust hopups in the past. Just a touch, not jumping up high and dropping just a gradual increase above line of sight. It also allows me to hit longer shots without huge amounts of hold over.

My m14 still isn't consistent enough for me, mostly because my m4 with nearly the same barrel length is significantly more consistent. I believe it's the barrel though, I have an unknown 6.02 steel barrel in the M14 which I think is causing the inconsistency. One of these days I'll swap it with the M4 barrel and see if the groups tighten up accordingly. Right now the M4 is able to fairly consistently hit the 75 yard mark on the chair and the groups with .25's are surprisingly good. The amazing thing about that to me is that the sniper rifle really almost requires the 43g's to reach out well to those ranges but the M4 seems capable even with the lighter weight cheaper ammo. I'm going to have to test allot more to see what's going on exactly but it's interesting.

So currently I'm a bit of an rhop believer in the sense that I do see some things that it seems to do better than a standard bucking. It's got quirks though as well, right now my m4 for some reason will overhop like crazy once in a blue moon. No idea what's causing it at the moment, once it starts shooting properly it stays that way for a long time. Seems to be more when it's cold bore just starting out lacking a better term. So I'm going to have to look into that and see if maybe the patch has come loose from the barrel window or something.

Either way I'm seeing longer range consistency than I've found with other options and after much trial and lots of error I seem to have mostly figured out the installation pretty well. I'm still planning on installing some rhops in shorter barreled guns just haven't had the time to fiddle with them much lately. I will say my results say there is no reason an rhop can't work with light weight ammo. I've got all of mine to where no hop is no hop, and I can run any normal weight .20g or above without adverse effects. So it's all about making sure the patch doesn't enter the barrel to insure it doesn't overhop lighter weight BB's. I will say it's touchy getting just a very little bit of hopup on lighter weights since they overhop so easily but it does work fine once you get it set.

Either way thought guys might be interested in hearing how it's going so far.

Take care!

SPRING / Angel Customs SP170 Spring review evike
« on: May 19, 2015, 12:59:37 PM »
Well guys normally I don't post much for reviews etc and this will be a short one but I had a less than stellar experience and I figured it might save someone else the money as well as headaches. I've heard allot of bad things about angel's custom products around the web on other forums. But recently I needed a spring for my sniper rifle and I figured hey I've got another Evike order why not put a spring on there as well and save shipping. So I looked around and the only option in an SP170 available was the Angel's custom. I figured why not I'll give it a try.

Installed the spring and it went well shooting 530fps on the chrono which is a touch low but with the short barrel on my TM VSR10 G-Spec I was willing to say it was likely just too short to get full velocity. Range was good, I was actually able to reach a bit further than my SP150 I had before in this gun with it setup as it is I could fairly consistently hit a 55 gallon drum at 100+ yards best was 120 yards. Previously I was having a very hard time carrying BB's past 80 yards or so with the SP150.

Fast forward 3 weeks or so and around 500 rounds, I noticed the bolt throw was getting much easier. I also noticed that my range seemed to be dropping off. Since most of my practice target shooting is at 75 yards I didn't noticed a change in accuracy really or range but I did notice my trajectory was changing as well as my hold over slightly. Well today I decided to do some longer range shooting and I was surprised I couldn't reach 100 yards. So I walked in and around 80 yards I could hit again, which made me wonder what FPS it was actually shooting and if I was right that the spring was loosing allot of strength fast.

Well I tossed it on the chrono and instead of the 530 I had, I'm running 400fps. Nothing has changed compression wise, and I haven't done it yet but I'm planning on tossing my SP150 back in until I get another spring in hand but I expect it will jump right back to where it was before I put in the SP170. But the basic results are the spring got weak enough in less than 500 rounds to drop the FPS 130 or so lower than where it started which in my mind makes it garbage. I'd read that same result elsewhere but really wasn't sure if I trusted it, should have listened.

Also called Evike and explained the situation since it's been nearly exactly a month since I placed the order only a few weeks since I got the spring and was basically told that springs are not under any sort of warranty and basically I'm out. I understand the theory here, and that they probably get allot of guys trying to replace parts that aren't bad. But I gotta feel that was a negative knock against them as well. Which is unfortunate since I've been pretty happy with Evike and have ordered quite a bit from them over the last 5 months or so.

All in all it is what it is, I won't be buying anything else with Angel's custom on the package that is for certain and I'd probably recommend other guys do the same, just too many reports of the parts not being worth the price at all.

Take care!

Clothing & Load Bearing Gear / Plate carriers and chest rigs
« on: May 18, 2015, 04:59:33 PM »
So guys I've got a fairly simplistic question I've never owned anything MOLLE based so no pouches or anything. Back in the day I ran my Blackhawk Omega one vest that I've had long enough that it was still made in the US:) Problem is that it's black and while it's functional it's very easy to spot and always has been. When I bought it OD wasn't available so it was the option that worked at the time and I got a great deal on it. Now though years later I'm looking into getting some of this newer modular gear. Likely I'll buy a little at a time until I have a full setup that works for me. But I'll admit I'm a little bit leery of what I'd like to do since I've never had the flexibility of putting things where ever I'd like so I don't have a good grasp of what I want where.

So the other thing is as always I'm looking for bargain basement pricing, unfortunately my airsoft budget just isn't what it used to be years ago with all my other responsibilities and sometimes I'm just trying to buy enough BB's to keep playing;) So I'm looking for bang for the buck and something I'm not going to be disappointed in the quality of the rig. Could be a plate carrier, or a chest rig I'm not really sold one direction or the other but reasons to go one way or the other to help decide would be appreciated. From what I gather chest rigs are a little lighter and more nimble. Also the field I've been playing at lately is more close quarters it's outdoor but the engagements are typically 50ft. or so and the rounds tend to be much shorter than what I'm used to. So I'm finding myself carrying a couple mags out rather than a full vest worth of gear, which is another reason I'm thinking modular might make more sense right now, I can scale up or down depending on needs.

So here is one I've had my eye on, http://www.evike.com/products/46979/

Reason primarily is price, as well it looks fairly solid and from my eye the pouches are removable. So I should be able to change things and remove things to switch it up along with adding more pouches if I need to. I do have a question though, what purpose does the buckle in the center do? I can't seem to figure out if it actually serves some purpose or not.

So input on all fronts would really be appreciated, I've been reading reviews and digging into things some but I get the impression that the vast majority of the stuff I've read is "this is the best thing ever because it's the first vest I've ever seen!", rather than a good review of how the gear stacks up against what else is available particularly in the price point. I'm willing to go up some on price, I'm sure I will but I'd like to stick with gear that I can keep on using on pouches and whatnot.

Also color, right now I'm planning on swapping over towards OD on everything, in my mind it should work with just about any camo pattern I'm likely to use which makes allot more sense than the black I've got now. Since I do really like swapping camo patterns frequently. I'm not looking for any particular impression, just something functional more than anything that will go fairly well with my guns/gear.

Thanks guys input is very much appreciated. Also if someone has a good link to a primer of sorts of info on this thing I'd be more than happy to dig through it. For whatever reason my google skills are very much lacking in digging out the type of info I've been looking for.

Take care!
