Clothing & Load Bearing Gear / Plate carriers and chest rigs
« on: May 18, 2015, 04:59:33 PM »
So guys I've got a fairly simplistic question I've never owned anything MOLLE based so no pouches or anything. Back in the day I ran my Blackhawk Omega one vest that I've had long enough that it was still made in the US:) Problem is that it's black and while it's functional it's very easy to spot and always has been. When I bought it OD wasn't available so it was the option that worked at the time and I got a great deal on it. Now though years later I'm looking into getting some of this newer modular gear. Likely I'll buy a little at a time until I have a full setup that works for me. But I'll admit I'm a little bit leery of what I'd like to do since I've never had the flexibility of putting things where ever I'd like so I don't have a good grasp of what I want where.

So the other thing is as always I'm looking for bargain basement pricing, unfortunately my airsoft budget just isn't what it used to be years ago with all my other responsibilities and sometimes I'm just trying to buy enough BB's to keep playing;) So I'm looking for bang for the buck and something I'm not going to be disappointed in the quality of the rig. Could be a plate carrier, or a chest rig I'm not really sold one direction or the other but reasons to go one way or the other to help decide would be appreciated. From what I gather chest rigs are a little lighter and more nimble. Also the field I've been playing at lately is more close quarters it's outdoor but the engagements are typically 50ft. or so and the rounds tend to be much shorter than what I'm used to. So I'm finding myself carrying a couple mags out rather than a full vest worth of gear, which is another reason I'm thinking modular might make more sense right now, I can scale up or down depending on needs.

So here is one I've had my eye on, http://www.evike.com/products/46979/

Reason primarily is price, as well it looks fairly solid and from my eye the pouches are removable. So I should be able to change things and remove things to switch it up along with adding more pouches if I need to. I do have a question though, what purpose does the buckle in the center do? I can't seem to figure out if it actually serves some purpose or not.

So input on all fronts would really be appreciated, I've been reading reviews and digging into things some but I get the impression that the vast majority of the stuff I've read is "this is the best thing ever because it's the first vest I've ever seen!", rather than a good review of how the gear stacks up against what else is available particularly in the price point. I'm willing to go up some on price, I'm sure I will but I'd like to stick with gear that I can keep on using on pouches and whatnot.

Also color, right now I'm planning on swapping over towards OD on everything, in my mind it should work with just about any camo pattern I'm likely to use which makes allot more sense than the black I've got now. Since I do really like swapping camo patterns frequently. I'm not looking for any particular impression, just something functional more than anything that will go fairly well with my guns/gear.

Thanks guys input is very much appreciated. Also if someone has a good link to a primer of sorts of info on this thing I'd be more than happy to dig through it. For whatever reason my google skills are very much lacking in digging out the type of info I've been looking for.

Take care!

« on: May 17, 2015, 12:35:00 AM »
Hey guys looking for a full set of acu's large long size as cheap as possible. I know allot of guys don't care for them and that from what I hear they are available cheap at surplus stores. Unfortunately no surplus stores around here and eBay is a touch high. So if you've got some your looking to get rid of fairly cheap shoot me a Pm.

Thanks!

Clothing & Load Bearing Gear / Woodticks and tricks
« on: May 07, 2015, 11:47:38 AM »
Well guys I saw a question on facebook about woodticks and airsoft and I realized that some guys didn't grow up in the woods dealing with them daily so I figured I'd type up some of my own experiences and tips for others.

Basically use some deet, it will help get less ticks. Make sure to go around your boots and ankles, most of the ticks I get are crawling up my legs. Use leg hair to your advantage to be able to feel them crawling and take them off. I pull maybe 10 a day off that are crawling and only get bit a couple times a year(I live way out in the woods). I don't use any special tools to pull them just my fingers, make sure they take a bit of hide with them when they come loose and look closely at the tick to insure the head is still intact. I've never had a problem with the heads coming loose over the years. If it's a small tick it's not a bad idea to keep it. Scotch or packing tape is an easy way to store/kill them. Just stick them to the tape and fold it over. Nice thing about this is you can keep them if you ever have a problem and need someone to identify the tick, they are visible through the clear tape and can't get away. I've never figured out how long it takes them to die in the tape but they stay indefinitely. Once your done in the woods for the day take your clothes completely off and with a mirror check closely for ticks everywhere before going to bed. Check between toes, behind ears in the hair and other nooks and crannies to insure none are climbing or have bit you. There may be ticks on your clothes you can toss them right in the washer, then dryer and the heat/water will kill them off. You can also leave the clothes outside, generally I haven't had a problem here for the most part but clothes will bring in some ticks. Dogs, will carry in ticks on them by biting and just crawling on them, it's their height typically. Frontline works well, doesn't stop the ticks from biting, but it kills them and they fall off after the bite which is fine.

That's the short version, and some of it might be contrary to some of the new ideas on them, however it's worked for me my whole life without much issue. So any questions guys have or suggestions feel free.

Take care!

I'm just posting here as a public service announcement of sorts, I purchased the Marpat as well as the gearbox, haven't received anything haven't been able to get a tracking number despite him saying it was shipped several weeks ago. I've filed a paypal dispute because of lack of communication and shipping. Buyers beware.

Luke

Appending my previous message, I just spoke to him and the package according to him was shipped and came back with a torn label today. So he's going to mail the package out, send me tracking info and as soon as I get the stuff in the mail I'll cancel the paypal dispute. If for some reason they side with me on the claim and refund before I get the package I'll just send the funds back to his paypal account. I will say nice guy on the phone I don't have any real reason to suspect that what he said isn't true. As such I'll take it as the explanation of what happened and just assume he was busy etc. So at this point things are going the right direction and I expect this will be resolved. If for some reason it's not I'll certainly update things accordingly one way or the other as well as the resolution.

EDIT Again: Got the tracking info via PM so it looks like things are on the mend. Luke

EDIT again: Got the BDU's as well as the gearbox as described the other day. So things did work out in the end, though it was slow to come about and honestly it took longer than it should have along with more effort. That said he held up his end of the deal and I did as well so take from it what you will.

AEG / Rhop my experiences thus far
« on: May 02, 2015, 09:31:37 AM »
Well guys I'm going to start this thread about my experiences with rhop and what I think of it along with some of my things I've tested and tried to see if the claims out there have lived up to the hype or if it's about the same as a normal bucking. Now I should note this isn't scientific this is just my opinions and experiences so don't take it as the end all of rhop information.

So I started by buying the tubing rather than a normal rhop kit, I bought the same material(from what I've read) as the IR-HOP materials. I did not use the mnub I've used erasers and other things along with standard nubs in my testing so far. So maybe changes made there could effect the results but since I haven't tried that I can't give an opinion.

First gun I tried it on was my M14 and I had a heck of a time getting it to run properly. I had pinch jams through this whole process, probably tried it a dozen times. I was about ready to give up at this point since I had nothing but problems. Fast forward a month or so and I tried rhopping an M16 length barrel for my M4 to try and make a sort of DMR out of it, so that I could swap barrels and run it at longer distances. Well I had success and I managed to get an rhop that worked properly even at .20-.25 weights. Then I had some hooking issues, and ended up going back to a normal bucking and barrel for a while.

Around that same time I decided to rhop my TM VSR10 since I had planned that the whole time and after success with the M4 I figured it was worth a try. I managed to do that correctly the first time, worked right from the go. But I did have some hooking problems that showed up later, come to find out one of the legs of the patch had come unglued which was causing uneven contact with the BB. I glued that and sanded the outside a little more and it's back to working 100%. That was after around 2000 rounds of .40g BB's out of the rifle. I've shot maybe 1000 since fixing it without any additional issues.

This morning I decided to play with the M16 length barrel again, trimmed the patch a little shorter since I figured out it was sticking some in the window when depressed by the hopup nub. So basically it would get stuck slightly causing the hooking I encountered. Then reassembled and it's working well now.

So I've rhopped a couple different guns successfully and had my fair share of failures along the way. But the important question is how does it shoot and is it different than a normal bucking. Well yes it's different but how is harder to say. I haven't seen any magic that makes my guns shoot amazingly further than before rhop. I'll start with my M4 since it's fresh in my mind from this morning. Yesterday I did some shoot testing I've got laser ranged folding chairs setup at 25, 50, 75, and 100 yards. Basically they make a good noise when hit, and they are around the size of a person so they make good reactive targets for testing. I can hit the 50 yard no problems with most guns stock or otherwise 50 is a pretty good starting point. 75 yards on the other hand is rare, upgraded or not with an AEG. I've managed a few stray hits at 75 yards with my M4, G36, and M14. All three are just shy of 400fps, anything less than that in my experience doesn't really have a chance of tagging that 75 yard mark.

So I walked out to 75 yards and shot back at my pole barn with it's metal siding it makes the target the broad side of a barn;) What it really does for me is allow me to know when I'm hitting the barn, then I can lower the point of aim until I can't hear an impact which tells me I'm hitting the dirt in front of the barn. It also let's me check absolute range to a degree, and I've got a 50 gallon plastic drum there, which I can hear the difference in an impact on that vs. the metal of the building and it's easier to use all the feedback to track the rounds onto target especially at that range and further. So I did some shooting with the stock bucking and normal M4 barrel. 50 yards again no problem, at 75 yards I can't make a hit without hold over. On my EOTECH if I hold at 75 yards at the top intersection of the reticle and the circle I can make hits fairly regularly at 75 yards on that 50 gallon drum. So probably 6ft. of holdover at that range if I had to guess. But I was able to make the hits and I was somewhat surprised that it was able to do it. This morning I did the rhop and did the same testing. 50 was a little more difficult, I found that even with about the same setting for the hopup I was hopping more at 50 yards with rhop than with the bucking. IE I needed more holdover to make the shots at 50. At 75 I set the hopup to put the rounds on the drum at the same point of aim as the bucking so top of the reticule. So I was getting more hopup mid flight with rhop but basically the same absolute range and honestly I don't think the barrel length nor the rhop effected accuracy in any positive manner. It might be but groups at that distance looks about the same to me by eye. Also hitting the barrel was about the same results number of hits per try. So my current conclusions on the M4 is that it's not worth it, maybe with heavier ammo these tests were done with .25's rather than anything heavier. That might make a difference but I wouldn't hold my breath. I'll still be testing more with this platform and really the M14 again but so far nothing amazing. Also I should mention this is a CA M15A4 upgraded most of the internals running an M120 and a full cylinder.

My VSR10 now that is a little different story. I noticed a much more consistent hop compared to the stock bucking with much less pressure applied to the slide adjustment. IE I needed nearly full adjustment to hopup .43g BB's before rhop, now I'm able to get the right setting with about half adjustment. Range, I'm not sure it is any longer shooting but it might be. I'm able to hit the 75 yard chair regularly not 10/10 but more like 5-8 out of 10 depending on the wind. I'm able to walk to 75 yards and hit quite consistently on the barn as well as the barrel. I can also walk out to 100, and make hits on the barrel and barn still fairly consistently. I've also walked out basically as far as I can while still hitting the barn that seems to top out around the 120-130 yard mark. I can say I did that same test with the rifle before the rhop and I wasn't able to go past the 100 yard mark. It could be some of the other modifications I've done to the gun since then or weather or something else not sure but now I'm able to tag the barn at those distances. That's not to say I could hit a person at that distance it would be a very lucky shot. Also I should mention this is a higher hopup setting than I used at 75 yards.  I can pretty much set the hopup to be center of the scope at 75, it's high at 50. If I shoot at 100 I can hold over a fair amount or put one more click of hopup on the lever which puts me almost center of the scope at 100, which of course is then higher at 50 and high at 75. It's not really overhopping in the climb to the sky manner, it's more of a ballistic trajectory. This gun is a TM VSR10 with aftermarket sears, stock piston etc, SP170 spring and otherwise stock including gspec barrel length. It's currently shooting just shy of 500 with .20's.

So I'll update this as I fiddle with more stuff and get a better idea what the results really are. But for guys thinking about doing an rhop, I'd hold off if it's an AEG unless you've got time and money to burn. If it's a bolt action I'd probably go ahead with it. I think it really needs the higher FPS and BB weight to have any real noticeable effect from what I've seen. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's been the impression I've gotten from the testing. It might have more of an effect on my M14 with it's longer barrel and different cylinder but I don't know yet what that will show. I will say the M14 with a stock bucking is more reliable at hitting the 75 yard chair than any of my other AEG's so maybe but I'm unwilling to make a guess yet till I get it done.

Take care!

Tech Questions / DIY Chronograph
« on: April 23, 2015, 07:08:29 PM »
This is a continuation of the thread here: http://miairsoft.proboards.com/thread/50895/diy-chronograph

Well guys working prototype;) And I'm thrilled with the results so far. Please do note this is the try after the photoresistors using photodiodes since the previous attempt didn't work I decided to build this quick and dirty rather than nicely. The only thing I really did right was solder all the connections etc;) Otherwise it's a piece of pipe with a couple holes drilled into it, and two pieces of wood;)

But it works and not only that the results are pretty dang close to what I suspected they should be for guns. I tested 15 or so guns across it, and for the most part I'm seeing consistent results and about what I expected. IE My CA M15A4 that I've just gone through and fixed things on running with an m120 spring is shooting 403+- 5. My M14 was a little bit of a surprise since it's running very close to 450fps with some drops here and there I'd say +-10fps right now. Which makes some sense though it's an m120 spring it's a full cylinder with a long barrel so the BB has a fair amount of time to accelerate. My Sniper rifle is coming in at 470 with an M150 Spring in there, which could be a bit low for that spring being a TM gun but I may not have a perfect air seal on the hopup there, as well it's the stock short gspec barrel which is likely to go up some in FPS because of joule creep occurring. GBB's all fell in the range of 280-320 which with the cold temps in my shop right now makes pretty good sense to me. My CYMA AEP ran right in the 210fps range which again makes some sense to where it should be. My stubby M4 came in dang close to 350fps which is what it's quoted factory speeds are. My G36 fell a little lower than expected but I'm not sure the spring in it, felt like an m120 but could have been less.

So photodiodes and matching IR LED's will make a diy chrono, I'll include more info and picture once I build a pretty version of this;)

Take care!

The Gallery / Luke's gun thread
« on: April 17, 2015, 08:04:18 PM »
Well guys figured I'd update this thread by creating it here again. And I took another picture of my CA M15A4 in it's normal configuration rather than the DMR type of setup.

M15A4 DMR of sorts

Standard setup that I've been running for years.

When I get some time I'll take some more of the rest of my old school collection. That M15A4 is from around 2003-2004 or so.

Seller/Buyer Ratings / New Buyer and Seller Feedback system READ THIS!
« on: April 16, 2015, 10:58:53 PM »
Hey guys we've got a new feedback system in place, it won't carry over older feedback so feel free to create threads linking your old info from the old site. But now you can click on a username and then click "submit feedback for so and so" and see their feedback as well as leave new feedback through this system. Should make it easier when browsing a commerce thread to click on a persons name and see their feedback rather than having to hunt for it.

Take care!

Michigan Commerce - Airsoft Guns Allowed / Commerce Rules.
« on: March 10, 2015, 07:04:58 PM »
You can sell guns again, so feel free to post but follow the rules.

Please use WTB, WTS, FS, or WTT in the subject heading, this helps speed and accuracy on what you want to give or get!!
FS= For Sale
WTB= Want To Buy
WTS= Want To Sell
WTT= Want To Trade

If you have sold something/gotten rid of it, or are no longer offering it on these forums please put SOLD or DELETE ME in your subject's heading (just go to the top post, edit it - it has to be your post you started) and I or another moderator will take care of it.

If you have multiple items to sell, but miss them in the initial post, please list them in your most recent active thread. You may use the modify button to edit the description and message in your first post of the thread. Then add a reply to the thread to bump it back to the top. This will help to keep all recent listings on -Page 1-. Do not bump a thread more than once in any 24 hour period. You may engage in conversation when addressed, but successive posts count as bumping. Again, to add information to an existing thread without bumping it, modify the original post.

If you want to add a second thread for items you want to buy that is permissible. Please limit yourself to no more than two (2) active commerce threads at any given time, one for selling and one for buying. In fairness to other sellers/buyers, please limit the number of your active commerce threads so all recent listings will be visible on -Page 1-.
(Edit-frostee, 12/29/07)

Thanks.

Addendum: This thread is for players to sell guns out of their personal collections. If you're trying to make a business out of selling guns, your posts belong in the reseller announcements forum.

Addendum: 1 bump per 24 hour period.

Addendum: Threads marked SOLD or DELETE ME, will be locked and deleted after 24hr period.

Forum Rules / Forum Sigs
« on: March 10, 2015, 04:18:40 PM »
Seems like signature image size is getting a little bit out of hand. There's no reason why others must be forced to view/load your gigantic works of art.

Starting today I will be enforcing a sig size limit. The Maximum sig image size will be 350x60 pixels, which is more than enough room to make something flashy.

Animated gifs or flash movies may be used as sigs granted thier file size remains relatively small. (Maximum file size to be determined)

Thank You!

Forum Rules / Deleting your own posts
« on: March 10, 2015, 04:18:03 PM »
After much frustration and little discussion, we've decided to add a new rule. Deleting the first post in a thread will now get you a warning. When somebody deletes the first post in a thread, it renders that thread useless, and any information that you guys have taken the effort to add to that thread almost always gets lost without context. This is easily as disruptive to the board as derailing a thread or making an unreadable post, so from here on out, it'll get the same treatment.

I know a lot of people delete their post because they think it'll delete the thread. It doesn't. So if you'd like a thread deleted, just ask one of the mods and we'll get rid of it for you.

Forum Rules / Warning Levels
« on: March 10, 2015, 04:17:37 PM »
Because we are foolishly lenient mods, we currently use a four strike system. Each time we need to warn someone about a violation of forum rules, we increment that user's warning level by 25%. The first two warnings (25% and 50%) carry no additional consequences. When you get to 75%, you get a seven day ban. When you get to 100%, you get permanently banned.

Mods have the discretion to not give out any warning points, or in particular circumstances, to go beyond the specified punishments. If you join and your very first post is hardcore porn on the general discussion thread, we're not going to give you a chance to make a second post.

Warning levels do not go down through any automated process. Mods have the discretion to lower them as a reward for continued good behavior or other contributions to the forum. This is at our discretion only. PMing us to ask to have your warning level lowered is far more likely to frustrate us than get us to bump you down. If you're making positive contributions, we will take notice. Remember that unless you get that fourth strike, even a 75% warning level doesn't limit your ability to participate here after your temp ban is over, so your warning level should not be a big deal. Edit: When I say contributions to this forum, I don't mean everyday ordinary posts. I mean putting something up that significantly enriches the Michigan airsoft community.

On our private moderator forum, we discuss bans and other punishments. We do not act frivolously, although sometimes we do find ways to entertain ourselves and other forum members along the way. There have been occasions, some recently, where we've gone lighter or harder on a given member after talking it over.

Forum Rules / Special rules for airsoft businesspeople
« on: March 10, 2015, 04:17:12 PM »
We've been asked to clarify the rules for how owners & staff of airsoft business can use the forum as a promotional venue. We don't want to be unfriendly to those people - they're essential to the sport - but we also want to keep the focus of this site on the Michigan airsoft community and keep commerce at arms' length.

If you are affiliated with an airsoft retail, distribution, or manufacturing business in any way, you may only promote your business in Retailer Announcements.
If you are affiliated with an airsoft field, you may promote events at your field only in Airsoft Events.
If your business is both a retailer or wholesaler and a field, it's fine to cross-promote the sales side in an event post, but not to put event announcements in Retailer Announcements.
Posts outside those boards may include casual references to your work ("At the store we see a high return rate on those" is fine) but no advertisements, solicitation of business, or discussion of pricing ("Yes, that's a good gun, stop by the store and we'll set you up" would be unacceptable).
Members not affiliated with any business may refer to such businesses as appropriate. To pick an obvious example, if a retailer loans you a gun to review, you're free to acknowledge the retailer in your review. Such mentions may include links but should not include any sort of graphics, including but not limited to logos and banner ads. The idea is to acknowledge the help you received from a retailer, no more, no less.

Forum Rules / Forum Rules/Guidelines
« on: March 10, 2015, 04:15:50 PM »
Welcome to the MiA forum rules/guidelines. This is a reminder of the guidelines we have established for this forum, in order to keep it running smoothly. If you have a problem with any of these guidelines, then we must quite simply request you post elsewhere. Thanks. Note that these are not the only rules! Many boards have their own specific rules, listed in threads stuck near the tops of those boards. Read before you post!

1 - Please use specific thread topics. The topic of your thread should let the reader know what the thread is about. Mods have full authority to re-title threads, but we would rather you took care of this yourself.

2 - Put threads in the right place. Wanted to sell / buy / trade threads must go in Commerce. Don't post about airsoft in Off Topic. We're not going to punish anyone for asking about AEG brands in AEG vs newbie questions, but if you go blatantly off topic, you'll get a warning. Just to make it clear, any attempt to sell gear outside of commerce will get you a warning. Don't drop into gear or gun threads to mention that you have an appropriate item for sale. The most we'll tolerate is a general "good deals on used gear can often be found in the Commerce board."

3 - Be polite to other members and leave thread moderation to the moderators. If you want to tell someone to do a search, you must also provide an answer to their question. If you cannot, then do not post on the topic. Brief responses only saying to do a search will be deleted on sight. "In before the lock," "this thread sucks," and similar boorish behavior will result in warnings (and then bans, as dictated by our usual policies). If you have a real problem with a post, don't get involved, just use the "report to mod" button and let the forum staff sort it out.

4 - Any racist/sexist/abusive language will be deleted by mods or cleverly edited to make you seem silly. So please avoid it. This includes language implying that homosexuality is bad, such as the use of "gay" or "fag" as insults. Note that this rule does not foreclose other punishments for such language, including warnings or summary bans if warranted.

5 - Please use the 'Modify' button to edit your posts instead of creating a new post directly after the old one. Any attepmts to raise postcount by consecutive multiposts will result in a banning.

6 - The mods have the ability to either delete a post or thread immediately, or lock it and give 24 hour notice prior to deletion. It is up to the mod how they want to handle this.

7 - Please use proper spelling, capitalization, grammar, and punctuation. Not only will you get your message across much clearer, but other forum members might actually be able to reply to your post instead of trying to decipher your enigmatic nonsense.

8 - Please do not post on "dead" threads unless you have something genuinely new, constructive, and useful to add. This applies to any threads that have been left dormant for two weeks or longer. Exceptions include Commerce threads that have not been declared as inactive, Retailer Reviews threads, and Buyer/Seller Ratings threads.

9 - If you're unhappy about forum moderation, PM an admin and state your case. Public complaining about moderation will be dealt with at the moderators' discretion, which includes summary bans. Our usual warning system doesn't mean everyone gets three free chances to tee off on their least favorite moderator.

Any complaints about any mods or anything else should be filed directly to me, in private, not in the forums.

Any questions on this, ask me.
