I have the plder version and it has served me well. Does this one still have the issue with readings changing depending on lighting conditions?

I'd probably be interested. Do you have any designs yet?

Now that there are plenty of good and more affordable upgrade options available a pretty awesome sniper rifle can be made fairly cheap. Buy a VSR variant for around $50-75, put in about $250 in upgrades, diy and lots of tuning and you have a gun that can hit out to around 300 feet. I've had a couple VSRs and they are still probably my favorite platform to tinker with and tune. So far I haven't fully upgraded one but it is definitely much cheaper than it used to be.

Airsoft Discussion / Re: Airsoft ROF - Which do you prefer and why?
« on: September 27, 2016, 04:06:06 PM »
With 3 round burst on my BTC fet I can just spam the trigger and it is essentially full auto. Your suggestion would require everyone to have programable trigger fets which isn't going to happen. Semi only for all assault rifle platforms is simple to enforce and makes for fun gameplay in my experience. I'd be fine with anything sub 300fps shooting full auto as well. This might give some incentive for people to run SMGs which seem to have pretty much died out.

Most of the MIA games I've been at have been semi only for everything other than support weapons. I like this style of gameplay because it adds a bit of realism and gives a real purpose to support weapons.

If you are shooting semi only for most/all of the game then trigger response is top priority. I've set up my AEGs with high speed gears and high torque motors to acheive a moderate ROF 20-25 rps and excellent trigger response. There are plenty of combos that work well for this and may also provide even higher rof but I have never dabbled with DSGs.

As for support guns which shoot primarily full auto, there obviously has to be a balance between firepower and ammo conservation. In an effective squad the support gunner allows the other squad members to maneuver by keeping opfor heads down and to do so effectively IMO they need some intimidation factor. It's not realistic that the support gun would have an optimal ROF to actually pin down or eliminate all opfor, the key is to have a ROF high enough that the opfor FEELS like if they pop up they are immediate risk of getting hit. To be truly effective on the field the support gunner may need to do this to numerous opfor at once spread out across a fairly wide area. I think the best way to really make people duck is simple, set up the support gun with an ROF well above what anyone else is likely to have. In my book that's about 30rps. Not just that, make it hit hard. Have it on the upper limit of the velocity limit that the rules allow and use a bb weight that gives you a nice range, somewhere around .28 to .3. It doesn't need to be particularly accurate, it just needs to be able to deliver a hail of plastic in someone's immediate area and make them hop back behind cover.

I can say that at bigger semi-only games I've been at, no one really batted an eye when my friend opened up with his RPK shooting around 18rps. With enough other shooting going on no one really notices. A support gun needs to be one that everyone hears over everything else.

UHC Super 9. Seemed epic at the time, didn't take long for me to figure out it was not...

I showed up for the afternoon and had a good time. The field is pretty decent, maybe others have some pics to share. They have a couple different fields that can each accommodate small short games. Anything more than about 25 people and the individual fields would probably get kinda crowded. The fields are adjacent to each other so in theory they could be used together to support a larger game. The land is mostly wooded with barricades, etc here and there for hard cover and a couple old cars in the back field. The speedball area is a bit too small to keep me entertained for long but I had a good time during the last couple games we played there.

I had a good time overall, turnout was decent but it seemed like things were winding down a bit by the time we showed up. Everyone had already played several games already so that's understandable I guess. Attendance dropped as it got later and the last game we played on the speedball field was only 2v3. I had fun overall and would definitely go again since the location is convenient for me.

Mosin, I'm going to try to make it to this game with a +1 but I probably won't be able to be there until noon or later. Will we be able to show up and register/chrono around 1pm for the afternoon half?

Except: http://www.tdtactical.com/# is what they might require...

Let's not shoot it down before we know the details. Hopefully they are reasonable and are open to various game styles and possibly MIA hosted events.

That is phenomenal. A solid CQB location with regular hours should attract plenty of business. As long as they uphold reasonable safety standards and FPS limits I will definitely be playing there.

Plenty of glock replicas are available from HK retailers if you are willing to buy overseas. Stark arms (vfc) and HK3 (we OEM iirc) were both still available last I checked.

Oh and fwiw my TM with a guarder kit fits fine in my safariland which is designed for a 17/22. I think a heat gun works to reshape most kydex or plastic holsters if the fitment isn't perfect though.

Tech Questions / Re: Mad Bull barrel thread die
« on: March 14, 2016, 08:02:21 PM »
I do not, however I seem to recall that the madbull die just recuts the threads to real steel spec correct? If that is the case you can just use a real steel die from Brownells or anywhere else that sells AR tools. Another option would be to just try a real AR barrel nut. It should be a fair bit harder than the airsoft receiver and recut the threads with a bit of oil.

Tech Questions / Re: Simple durable DIY mosfet design?

Definitely report back on how it goes. I bought a few 3034 MOSFETs from digikey a while back and never got around to doing anything with them so maybe I'll have to give it a try.

I've never soldered up a MOSFET myself since they are cheap enough for me to buy from others but I believe that this is the standard design based around the 3034 that most people use.

I also was not able to find this on the LC site. Where has it been announced? When is the event scheduled for?
