Forum News / Web Server Change
« on: August 28, 2024, 06:16:54 PM »
Hey just a quick update, had to move the webserver today everything is back up and running. It was only down maybe a few minutes depending on where you are in the world with DNS changes.

Everything seems to be back to normal any problems shoot me a note.

So just a heads up I made some changes, moved to a new server etc. So if folks noticed in the last half hour or so downtime that's what was going on. If you have any questions or issues just shoot me a PM or email luke213@gmail.com

Take care!

Forum News / Tapatalk update etc
« on: April 13, 2021, 12:40:58 PM »
So I got a minute to work on the site and update Tapatalk it should be working(if it wasn't before). It's been something I've been meaning to do for sometime but I required doing a full backup of the site and database before pushing through the update and anytime I had time to do it my internet sucked. Those not familiar I live way back in the woods with crap internet(until Elon gets his butt in gear and offers me a slot on Starlink).

So testing right now but feel free to use it, it should be 100% back in action again.

Agreed it's super heavy for what it is, which isn't a terrible thing I had the same idea for my little stubby m4 build. That said I went to a normal stock, then a side folder and it became more of a pistol, then I built an actual m4 pistol etc. Right now the stubby is down with either a stripped gear or piston haven't torn it apart to figure out the failure yet. That said my son generally uses it and we didn't play this winter. So one of these days I'll tear into it and figure out what happened. But with him using it I've kinda fiddled with what stock fits him actually thinking about it that may be the stock that is on there again;)

It's not bad, it's honestly just a hair shorter than I'd like but I'm also pretty big at 6'2 so that plays a role. The theory is good just not sure the actual function is there. I think my favorite was the side folder functionally, but battery storage was the issue there, I built a 3d printed battery box for it that fit within that stock but at the time honestly I wasn't very good with CAD by contrast. So likely I'll redo that one of these days and retro fit back to the side folder with an 11.1v lipo and once I rebuild the box I'll toss in a high torque neo motor and make a semi fast shooting lower FPS platform out of it.

I dig it, I hate the stock on the first one but that's probably because I have the same stock;) I ended up pulling it and replacing it. It's got decent capacity but I just don't care for it in use;)

My gear wise honestly hasn't changed in a couple years, though maybe this is the year I get back to doing something other than work;)

That said I dig the new stuff;)

So apparently google's recapcha was broken, which means IT WAS THE RUSSIANS.

Actually in this case it was legit Russians who posted all sorts of porn and weird crap. So I hope you guys bought your black market viagara while the links were up;)

I just cleaned all the garbage out, upped the security for new accounts and also setup manual approval of all new accounts. It's a PITA since I'll have to approve all new accounts but it should keep this sort of thing from happening until google updates their end of things and we can get back to normal.

If you see something weird report it, I know a few guys reported this I just hadn't had time to check what was going on until tonight. So things should be back to normal, enjoy!

Luke

EDIT: Also if you registered a new account yesterday or today it's likely gone. I just deleted about another 100 accounts that were registered since this issue. Most if not all used Russian IP's so I bulk killed them, that way I don't have to worry about them going active and spamming. I also did a search and if any legit guys registered with a *.ru email sorry your account is also gone. Register with gmail or something legit too much spam these days from server farms over yonder. My rule going forward is no *.ru email domains etc so be aware.

Well sometimes or actually really most times what works in the movies and games doesn't work worth a damn in real life;)

I still blame Magnum PI for the resurgence of Small of the Back carry over the years;)

I do seem to recall that now, if my memory is correct we were trying to figure out where to carry something and you were thinking on your back with a draw over the head or something. But I could be thinking of someone else;)

Just took a look and I can find talk about it in 2014 but it's dead air after that, I'm 99% sure I saw a press release probably around that time with a picture of one, I believe VFC was making it. It was around the same time as the Glock 42/43's were being made and getting press.

But right at the moment I can't find that they actually hit the market, but since it's a licensed deal it's very possible that S&W shot down the idea or something between the release and distribution.

So bad news is I don't have a clue if it exists;) But I remember seeing it and thinking "hey that would be a neat training option";)

Palm in always(bar maybe some oddball circumstance). The reason is many fold, but the primary reason stated is safety as it's dang near impossible to draw palm out without muzzling yourself at some point during the draw and doing it under stress almost makes that a guarantee.

On the holster front that is absolutely critical to being able to carry comfortably, and I don't say that trying to sell gear. If I'm honest had I found a comfortable holster back in 2009 I probably would have never started making holsters(and not that they didn't exist I just hadn't worn one or experienced it). But now 10 years later I've spent just tens of thousands of hours developing different designs and figuring out the engineering required to make a functional holster. Enough so that these days I'm actually building most of my tooling to mold my holsters myself in CAD in house then 3d printing them, finishing them out then using that "mold" of sorts to build the finished holsters. Craziness, but that's life;)

None the less on the Shield 45 I believe tooling is available, so if you do want a rig it shouldn't be a problem to buy and build for it. But if it's not and you're willing to get me enough pictures with calipers in place on the gun so I can dimension it all out I can just build the gun in CAD then build the tooling to make a holster for it;) So options do certainly exist.

This is pretty close to my "concealment setup"

This is closer in size to the shield this is for a KAHR P40 series which is around that same size point:

That's also a bit less fancy of a rig since the first one is Caiman hide along with ostrich leg trim;)

So I believe someone did build one the problem I think you'll run into is using the same gear because the size was scaled to the 9/40 rather than the slightly larger 45acp variety. Depending on what you run for a holster etc, it may or may not work for draw and fire practice but will give you a familiar feel even if slightly off size wise.

I can't say I'm as skinny as  I once was;) But I remember that still, I'm not fat but I'm 6'2 and around 200-220lbs depending on what the wife is feeding me and how much stress I'm under;)

Anyhow this is right in my neck of the woods, I don't often talk about my "shop" and actually these days that could be considered plural. So I'm a holster maker, been building leather rigs for the last 10 years as my only profession. Last year I expanded into kydex(with another name).

So www.adamsholsters.com is all my leather gear, and www.kymeraholsters.com is my kydex stuff, both sites are setup to crosslink but some guys don't realize they are both me. I kept them apart because of lead times, the leather being much slower to produce runs 12-18 weeks on average, where the kydex is sub a week.

Anyhow back to topic at hand. Position will depend on your mode of dress as much as anything else. Appendix is very popular these days, but it's not my favorite. Personally for concealment I'll run my AH Texas rig strong side around 4 o'clock typically with a 1911 either a 5in. or 3.5in. depending on the day. Normally though since I'm open carrying in and around the shop/house I carry in my Overpass holster closer to 3 o'clock with my 5in. 1911. Mags don't change for either, I run them in a Texas mag carrier weak side around 8 o'clock and typically it's a double mag carrier with a mag and the front pouch is my Gerber MP400 multi tool that I'm lost without;)

That setup/position lets me pretty much do whatever I want with it comfortable and staying out of my way. I can go lay under the truck and turn a wrench or I can sit in the shop and stitch leather. I've driven cross country with the same setup in the Jeep as well as the motorhome without any issues at all. So that's my goto no BS solution for all day everyday carry;)

SPRING / Re: The SSG24
« on: May 12, 2019, 03:55:17 PM »
Well and my normal bolt gun is a built TM VSR10 G-Spec, and there isn't much stock anymore on that gun after all the work. But it's got an absolute ton of time and hand work in it, so maybe it's a bit smoother, but from memory I don't recall any real issues with the SSG when I shot it, I felt I could have done pretty much as well running it as my normal VSR.

So I think it will do well for ya.
