AEG / Happy Reunion: A Love Story
« on: June 14, 2019, 10:11:58 AM »
My baby and I have been separated for nearly a year and a half. I was beginning to think I’d never see her again. We’re we just never meant to be? I was starting to forget her touch, her curves, her scent. Was it all a dream?

It was a cold wet wintery day when the accident happened. We had spent the afternoon together. She’d been spot on all day. As usual the other guys were jealous of her and I. She’s not flashy, but it’s always been a subtle beauty that you don’t notice until you’re up close, but you can feel from across the room, unexpected, she inspires fear but also desire.
Suddenly she seized up without warning. We were both frozen in time, her and I. I feared the worst.

This week I received an email, she was headed home. It was touch and go for a long time. They don’t make them like her anymore. Those curves, that heart, that personality. That unlicensed H&K goodness. Something that really was never meant to be sold on our shores, and yet, she found her way to me.

ZShot finally came through. A quote from their message:

“First, we apologize for the delay. We recently had staff changing and a lot of things are very behind schedule. We were unable to get back to you until just now. The technician who was responsible for your TW5 failed to perform any inspection and rely the technical documents for this RMA before he quit so we have to let our current tech to revisit it.

Upon inspection the problem is  believed to be that the positive and negative of the motor are soldered incorrectly. Whoever worked on your TW5 before you sent it in installed the motor backwards so the gear is pushing piston forward instead and it resulted in burnt up electronics. We've been trying to order replacement parts for TW5 from SYSTEMA in the past few months but all TW5 related products are out of production so we had to pull parts from ZShot owner's personal collection to fix it.”

I am thankful, yet saddened that another gave their’s so that mine could go on. I am happy. She is home, where she belongs. Soon, she will be ready to join me in the field once more.

SPRING / The SSG24
« on: May 09, 2019, 10:54:39 PM »
I’m looking for any thoughts, opinions, and experiences on the famous Novritsch platform. I’ve been researching it for a while reading reviews, watching videos, etc., and I’m ready to pull the trigger on the investment.

Novritsch now has a US distributor that appears to be located in PA. The buy in price has dropped a little and shipping is a flat $10. So as of the writing of this post a new SSG24 can be had for a measly $485.

At this point my attraction is definitely being able to just pick up and go, almost no tuning should be needed. I don’t have a ton of time to tech things these days and I certainly lack the appropriate space to tune a 300’ ranged gun.

I really like the fact that there are now external parts, body kits, rails, etc., to customize the look. I’ll probably spring for the VFC M40A5 body kit. Live it up!

I’d really like to be on the delivery end of one of these puppies, as opposed to being on the receiving end, which I have. Like I said, feedback and experiences appreciated.

Retailer Reviews & Discussion / Airsoft Tiger111 HK
« on: April 20, 2019, 10:41:40 PM »
So this website feels a little off. I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe that it looks cheap, it behaves a little glitchy sometimes, but damn that selection of products. It feels like the Amazon of Airsoft in Asia.

I placed a small order under $100 to see how it went. I payed via PayPal, which converted my transaction to HKD. So $533HKD later my order was placed.  Shipping was $20 for a single 1lb item. Seemed a little steep, but international shipping tends to be crazy. The order seemed to just sit, which worried me a little. Order was placed Monday and finally shipped Friday.

Package was issued a tracking number for HK Post. It only updated once to “Package Transferred to destination carrier” and that was the status it retained for two weeks. The shipping method was not traceable via USPS which was weird, because in my experience it usually is. Finally a couple of days ago the Post Office put a sticker on my door saying they attempted a delivery. They never reattempted the delivery so I had to go pick it up in person.

I’m not sure exactly what the shipping service they used was, but I would say it was less than stellar.

Despite all that, the goods (once I actually got them) were well packed, boxed and bagged in a http://airsoft.tiger111hk.com/ branded bubble mailer, looking very professional. Package was unopened by customs.

Over all it was a satisfactory experience.
My major gripes are with HK Post and USPS this time around. I don’t know if it was the specific delivery service tiger111hk used but either way I still got it in the end.

Retailer Reviews & Discussion / Shooter Combat Gear (Hong Kong)
« on: April 20, 2019, 10:25:11 PM »
The website looks dated to be sure, but doing a little digging on this company it has good reviews as a small Mom and Pop type operation out of HK. I placed a small order to see how it went. Ordered a relica holographic aight and a Dytac tracer ($110 on evike, $65 from HK).

No joke, shipping was $10. Goods arrived in a box packed in a purple bubble mailer, via registered international air mail, unopened by US customs. Package tracking was accurate the whole way. I was very pleased and would not hesitate to order from them again.

AEG / PCCs
« on: April 15, 2019, 09:05:18 PM »
I’m loving the CA X9 platform. Check out my custom build!

CA X9 PDW
Krytac SDP hand-guard
Ares M45X-S Type B Blade Stock
Modify Hybrid 6.03 TBB 141mm
Maple Leaf Bucking
SMG/Pistol Sights

Solid 350 FPS for CQB.
I’m planning on a Kydex holster for my battle belt to run it as a backup for outdoor games. A good compliment to a bolt action or DMR.

What do you think? Have you jumped on the PCC bandwagon? Post your builds!

Airsoft Discussion / Western Themed Airsoft, RDR
« on: February 05, 2019, 07:12:12 PM »
I can’t be the only one thoroughly enjoying Red Dead Redemption 2.

It’s definitely made me think about picking up a EF Smoke Wagon, a WG Schofield, or an old school lever action rifle. I’ve been thinking that in reality it wouldn’t be super difficult to build a period loadout, as the style could be easily emulated using modern clothing, boots, hats, etc.

The next question would be, is there any interest in running events or LARP in this time period, say 1860 to 1900? I recall seeing an event in the past that was themed around Rum Runners in a prohibition era setting. I was curious to find out what the interest was in that event.

Ideas I had:

Partly Story Driven:
Rival gangs fighting over territory control, a whisky still, and bad blood. On field resources would be available, additional ammo, dynamite (thunder-b), healing items, and other commodities.

Teams/gangs/law enforcement are differentiated by colored scarves or bandanas (or badges)

Weapons Allowed:
-Revolvers, all types (any period)
-Shotguns (low cap mags only)
-Bolt action replicas, (period preferred, but all types allowed)MEDs would be very important here. Low power bolt action replicas may be viable options.
-Lever action
-Semi auto pistols, period only(ie Mauser, Luger, etc.)

Starting ammo is limited for each gang but additional can be gathered on field as resources and rewards for completing objectives.

I feel like this could be a blast. Nerdy? Of course! Airsoft already is, but something different than Tan vs Green.

This is the sell down ladies and gentleman. I am leaving the sport for now. Life just has too many demands these days and unfortunately airsoft isn't going to make the cut. I may return one day when I can introduce it to my sons, but until then I would like my equipment to get used. Airsoft Discussion / MIA Craziness
« on: October 06, 2017, 08:27:07 PM »
Yikes.

I'm not sure exactly what went down over the last 24 hours or why for that matter, but yeesh.

You know, I think that the MIA Facebook page suffers a lot from the social media knee-jerk tendencies of that form of media. Realtime posting and responses really can create a lot of emotional turbulence. This isn't just something unique to the MIA page, its all of Facebook. Realtime social media is a blessing and a curse. On one hand its a great way to communicate, get news and updates in realtime, faster than any news media outlet can. On the other it can be crazy reactionary, and as some might put it; dramatic. Hey, we know that drama isn't new to this community, but I think this may be where the forums can shine.

Since good communication, good english, and grammar are an important part of what is expected here, I think it makes posting here a more thoughtful endeavor. Rather than shitposting and throwing shade, just to make an emotional statement, many of us take a few minutes to really post something of quality with some decency and respect.

I know this place is not free of the politics that are happening "out there", but at the moment its quiet and peaceful here.  Out there people I know and have played with, shaken their hands, and respected as real people and individuals, are exchanging blows are tearing each other down. All this amidst a moment where it seems like there is a vested interest by some of regrowing something here. Its sad and disturbing.

Again, I'll take a moment and write something with poise and reason. Thank you to all who make this place possible.

AEG / QD Socket Solution for TW5
« on: October 04, 2017, 10:38:40 PM »
I'd really like to get a QD socket that would somehow work with an MP5 stock so I can run it with a MS4 style sling. I run a TW5 for CQB, currently I have a simple one point sling attached to the MP5 style stock sling mounting bar using a split ring. Its not glamorous at all. I thought there might be a stock screw/pin with a QD socket, but I can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. Recommendations appreciated.

Newbie Discussion / To Snipe or Not to Snipe
« on: April 13, 2016, 06:43:02 PM »
Hi All,

I am posting this here because I am considering all options.

Its been some time since I was in the sniper game. I used to run a UTG gen. 3 master sniper back almost ten years ago. I never really learned how to do much with it tinkering wise, so it never shot more than 150 feet or so. It needed the usual replacement parts, spring guide, piston head and such. I took care of it, but never turned it into a monster, needless to say its long gone now.

All that said, this past weekend I had a few incredible distance kills with my DMR platform M16 SPR.  Now I find myself looking up POV airsoft sniper kill compilations on YouTube and I'm hungry for a sniper rifle. I'm looking to pull the old ghillie suit out of storage and go crawling through the bushes again.

So, what I'm looking for from the community is load out suggestions.  Things to keep in mind:
  • Budget isn't a factor at this point, lets hear it all!
  • I prefer guns that are prototypical, meaning they look and handle like the real thing (i.e. magazine well is where its supposed to be and magazines are the right size and shape.).
  • Upgrade options are huge, I want to pimp this thing out.
  • I'm open to gas or spring powered, all options are on the table, but I'm not really looking to make another AEG DMR at this point.

What in your experience has worked best? What have you seen that has blown you away?

After Action Reports / REC: No Limits/Action Paintball 4/10/2016
« on: April 13, 2016, 05:17:37 PM »
Hi All,

I just wanted to give a shout out to Pagan and the Suicide Kings as always for putting these events on, and thanks to the folks at Action Paintball.

Also a hearty thanks to all the MEN that showed up in the inclement weather on Sunday. From what I saw people had a great time, I know I did. It was great to see many familiar faces back on the field and a lot of new ones too! This winter was a drag and Sunday was no exception, we made the best of it for sure.

Looking forward to a great season!

Retailer Reviews & Discussion / PTS Syndicate
« on: July 06, 2015, 05:55:51 PM »
I wanted to mention my most recent Customer Service experience.

If you are not familiar with PTS Syndicate, they are the Hong Kong based manufacturer for most Magpul Licensed Airsoft goodies (Motor grips, handguards, battery type stocks, etc. If your MBUS cost <$80/pair its probably PTS Syn.)

I own an AEG PRS Stock (http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=9372) and during an on field battery change I somehow lost the tiny little "D" shaped AEG receiver adapter (bottom left in the catalog image).

After an exhaustive search of the interwebs; retailers, domestic and overseas, I contacted PTS Syndicate through their Customer Service email portal, (note that their website seemingly not updated since August 2014).

I received a response from a representative after about three business days, we exchanged about six emails total, response time between emails was about 48 hours.  After figuring out the specidfics I needed PTS offered to replace the part for free less Shipping and Handling. They offered me Fedex from Hong Kong at a rate of $26 USD. I asked that they quote me surface post rates, they offered $14USD.  I made the decision to not go ahead with the replacement, as its hardly justifiyable to pay $14 for a tiny piece of Polymer (let alone $26!!).

Overall me experience with PTS Syndicate's service after the sale was satisfactory, while I couldn't get exactly what I wanted out of the experience (at a cost that made sense...), their representatives were responsive and courteous. It is good to know replacement parts are readily available, if you can swallow the shipping cost.
